5 Things That Are More Important Than the Perfect Spring Break Body

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Spring break is right around the corner, which means so is the unfortunate and unrealistic expectation that you have to be in perfect shape if you dare go to the beach. But here’s the thing: there are so many things that are more important than stressing over whether or not you have a bikini body. So many other things are worth investing your time and money into than unattainable body images and fitness goals.

1. Physical Health

Although I’m all for physical fitness and working towards a goal, I strongly believe that there are many more ways to be physically healthy than trying to look like a Victoria’s Secret Angel. Being physically fit involves exercising often and it can be as simple as taking your dates with bae from the movie theaters to a walk in the park, or just hitting up a yoga or gym class a few times a week. It’s the little things that matter and that’s always more important than risking your well-being for drastic and unhealthy fitness goals.

2. Mental Health

Halfway through a completely exhausting semester, arguably the most important thing for you to do this spring break is to focus on your mental health and emotional wellbeing. I know it’s easier said than done, however it’s so important to take some time to yourself and find your mental Zen. Whether that means a social detox, reconnecting with your therapist or just having some good talks with your bestie, take advantage of this break to think about your current mental state.

3. Taking a Break from Academics

If nothing else, the most important part about spring break should be truly taking a step back and relaxing from school work. Every other week in the semester is the time to grind and stay up late studying, but this one week is every college student’s Hail Mary. Get your assignments, midterms and papers submitted ahead of time so that you can completely unplug from anything class related and avoid Canvas at all costs for a nice seven-day period.

4. Enjoying Delicious Food

Along with the amazing memories and the great times spring break will surely provide, I think it is absolutely vital to take the time to experience delicious food while you’re young, something my mom always says. Forget the perfect bod and spend your time searching for the perfect burger. Obviously, within reason, it is so important to treat yourself to delicious food, especially if you’re traveling over the break!

5. Self-Love

Last, but certainly not least, self-love is one term that’s thrown around a lot but still many people don’t take it seriously. Instead of working out for hours on end, worrying about if you’ll squeeze into that old bathing suit of yours, take the time to appreciate yourself and the body that you have. We are only given one body and it is your temple, the one that you’ll have to live with forever. Instead of pointing out flaws, look in the mirror and think about all of the amazing things about yourself and your body. Love yourself and love the body you live in; it is so much more important than any crazy bikini bod goal you could find.
