4 Reasons Why Taco Tuesday Is Basically a Holiday

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Usually, food fads die out. Last week everyone was obsessed with avocado toast, three months ago everything was made “unicorn” (basically just seasoning food with glitter) and six months ago sushi burritos were sent from the heavens. However, the one thing that has remained constant in our lives is the good old faithful Taco Tuesday. It helps us get over our Monday funk and puts us in a good mood to be able to conquer the rest of the week. So, why is Taco Tuesday so incredibly revered?

1. Deals on deals

Going out to dinner with friends is a perfect way to catch up and have fun but let’s be real, we’re all broke college kids. Taco Tuesday lets us have the best of both worlds! After a sweaty sports practice, a 10-hour Strozier study session or a full day of classes, dropping $5 on two tacos, chips and a drink at Tijuana is probably the best idea anyone has ever had.

2. Who doesn’t love tacos?

Whether you’re a hard or soft shell lover (sorry, hard shell all the way), what’s not to love about tacos? You can customize your taco to any flavor profile you want and can even get a little jazzy with the toppings. Pro tip: add grilled pineapple to your tacos, you won’t regret it.

3. If you can’t buy them, make them!

If you’re really trying to be frugal, there is no excuse to not celebrate this holiday from the comfort of your own home. Whether a vegan, vegetarian or meat eater, you will always have endless possibilities in the kitchen. Blend up a margarita (drink responsibly), whip up some guacamole and you are good to celebrate!

4. It adds a little spark to the beginning of the week.

The Monday blues are real and I know it is hard to get back to school after a fun weekend of FSU football and nights at Tenn. But, Taco Tuesday is something to look forward to! A reason to celebrate on the most random day of the week and an opportunity to take a delicious study break

Having worked at a taco bar in South Florida over the summer, I would classify myself as a top-tier Taco Tuesday connoisseur and I think I have cracked the code to why this obsession isn’t going away anytime soon. Given that #NationalTacoDay was the day after Taco Tuesday, we were even able to have back to back tacos. Don’t worry taco lovers, I can assure you that this food obsession isn’t just a fad, Taco Tuesday is here for good.
