Places to Check Out in Birmingham, Alabama!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Framingham chapter.

On this past spring break, my boyfriend and I took a little road trip down south. Our destination was Birmingham, Alabama. If anyone is interested in heading to that area anytime soon, here are a few places to check out that we saw on our trip!1. Well the first stop we made in Birmingham was to see a view of the city and the big statue of Vulcan. You can find this at Vulcan Park!2. Check out the city’s most famous mural! It can be found on 112 Richard Arrington Jr Blvd N!3. If you are into some old haunted places, check out Sloss Furnaces! It is old furnaces that were used to produce iron in 1882-1971. It was a really cool place to explore during our time in Birmingham!4. If you are a fan of coffee shops, try the Red Cat! They have great lattes, they even made me one with almond milk (because I don’t drink milk), and it was delicious!

5. Right across the street from the Red Cat was Railroad park! It was a gorgeous park, perfect for bringing your coffee over and lounging, walking or any other outdoor activities.6. If you’re over 21, go to the Good People Brewing Company! They have a great selection of brews and they are even dog friendly, so bring your pup! If you ever have the chance to visit and have a love for beer, try their IPA!

7. Have a record player? Check out Charlemagne Records! It can be found at five points. This record shop has been in Birmingham for 40 years! They had a great selection for pretty good prices. Another record shop in the area that we also went to was Seasick Records, which had an awesome, cheap used CD/record section.8. We visited the Birmingham Botanical Gardens during our trip, but unfortunately nothing was really in bloom during this time of year. But, it was still really cool to check out. There were many walking paths through the woods and a green house full of different types of plants!

9. If you like hiking, go visit Red Mountain Park! It is a big area, there is a dog park and nice walking paths in the woods. They even have additional activities, such as zip lining and a ropes course!

If you are ever heading south, try checking out Birmingham! It is a great city!
