Victor Ordonez, FCRH ’18

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fordham chapter.

Name: Victor Ordonez

School: FCRH Class of 2018

Major: Journalism

Hometown: Massapequa, NY

Tell us about your position at The Ram:

I am currently one of two Assistant News Editors at the Fordham Ram. I am responsible for writing, reporting, contributing to story ideas and a portion of the editing process. I have even been able to guide some great freshmen writers that I think show some real potential. Although I would like to say we all chip in the same amount of work, head News editor Theresa Schliep runs the show. She is amazing at her job and there would be no news reported at Fordham without her.

What is something you would like the Fordham community to know about The Ram?

Being apart of the The Fordham Ram’s staff is a lot of fun, but no small task. Within the past year alone, news at Fordham University has been unconventional to say the least. Our news team has had to cover some very surreal topics that affected our Fordham community over the past several month.

Our news team has covered union debates, budgetary problems and several protests- one of which had even became violent. Each and every time, The Fordham Ram’s staff exemplified journalistic integrity as it covered all events objectively, fairly, and timely. I would like everyone in the Fordham community to know about the people behind this amazing paper and the responsibility they carry with them. Regardless of what careers my fellow staff members decide to pursue, each of them are more than capable of excelling in a professional newsroom.

Fill us in on what your internship is and what it’s like:

My internship is is amazing, exciting and constantly surprising me. Working at the CBS News National Desk is an amazing experience because it forces me to face real, breaking news. And that never gets boring.

What’s the best part about your job?

The best part of my job is between the rush of covering breaking news and getting to meet cool people like Anthony Mason or Charlie Rose. Oh, and I get to cover cool things like comic con and attend the Emmys!? I love my job at CBS News.

What was your childhood dream job?

I always wanted to be ridiculous things when I grew up, from a scientist to a writer. Luckily I still haven’t grown up, so I have time to decide. But I like this journalism thing, I think I might stick to it.

If you could have 3 celebrities in your entourage, who would you pick?

Leo, Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon Levitt, and I won’t even tell you why because that’s all very self explanatory.

If you had one song playing everywhere you went, what would it be?

Lucky Penny by JD McPherson. Surprisingly also the only song I know from that artist, but it puts a dent in my commute.

If you had a TV show about your life, what would it be called?

“Surprise Motherf*cker!”

What’s your guilty pleasure?

I am a huge, huge comic book nerd.

Do you have any advice for your fellow Rams?

Please, read the Fordham Ram!
