milk and honey // the sun and her flowers

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FIU chapter.

Fans of Rupi Kaur know exactly what I am about to talk about. If you have no idea who Rupi is, you’re welcome.

Rupi Kaur is an Indian poet who so bravely shares what she has gone through in life in a very minimalistic way. Her activism for women has drawn a crowd to her style of writing. Admiration for her grows more the deeper you get into the book. You realize that this young woman struggled in ways that are unimaginable. Her adolescence has been shaped by fear, rape, abuse and yet she still has the strength to empower other women. Her vulnerability has led to the emotional healing of young women who have ever laid eyes on her work.

She has become the new face of raw and modern poetry. After she self-published her first book, Milk and Honey, society yearned for more.

Her strength and bluntness bleeds through the pages and this attracted an audience in need of something different.

Milk and Honey was a milestone reading for Millennials. Each poem will leave you speechless but curious to what happens next.

On October 3rd, after two very long years, Rupi released The Sun and Her Flowers. The theme of her book follows the titles: “Wilting,” “falling,” “rooting,” “rising” and “blooming.”
