Let’s Appreciate What We Have

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FIU chapter.

I recently underwent surgery for my nose called “turbinate reduction.” Basically it is a procedure done on the turbinates that are located within the sidewalls of the nasal cavities which warm and humidify our air. If the Turbinates are enlarged, it may become difficult to breathe. A turbinate reduction is a surgical procedure designed to reduce the size of your turbinates and then helps you breathe easier.

Long story short I was not able to blow my stuffy nose for seven days and I was very cranky.

It was then that I realized the smallest things from blowing your nose or even the ability to have a good night’s sleep can be taken away from us in a blink of an eye. As humans, I don’t think we do it on purpose but we are so accustomed to taking things for granted that we never realize how bad it can be once those things are taken away.

Every day the world faces incredible hardships and we can be affected by them. Take a moment when you wake up and count your blessings, feel lucky to have the things you do.

The things we take for granted are things some one else might be praying for. We must appreciate the little things, take a second to live in the moment and just remember that you are lucky.

Find a moment to reflect on your life and spread positivity throughout your days.
