How Plants Bring Positivity to Your Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FIU chapter.

Plants purify the air. Many people are unaware of the harmful chemicals lurking in homes caused by certain household products and furniture. For instance, the organic compound known as formaldehyde may cause asthma and allergies when present in high volumes. However, plants are able to remove up to 87 percent of toxins in the air. They are able to do this by trapping toxins in their roots and converting it into food.

They make breathing easier. Plants release moisture vapor during the process of photosynthesis, releasing around 97 percent of the water they take in. This essentially increases humidity in a given area and helps with respiration & decreases symptoms of dry coughs, sore throats and colds.

Plants improve physical and mental health. According to Kansas State University surgical patients with plants in their hospital rooms requested less pain medication, have lower heart rates and blood pressure and are released from the hospital sooner, than patients without plants in their hospital rooms. Plants are also essential for those fighting depression. Adding nature to your living space creates a positive effect on stress and increases ones well-being.

Improve work performance. Performing work around nature increases attentiveness and allows you to regain focus. Being around greenery will create an easier mind flow and result in greater work performance.

You can always get creative when adding plants to your living space, which makes it all the more fun. Plants go far beyond being a statement piece, they will bring positivity to your life in ways you never knew!
