Head To Where The Sun Meets The Water

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FIU chapter.

As a native Miamian, i know how difficult it can be to get lost in the frequent chaos of being a student, employee, intern and daughter. We tend to get so caught up in our life routine that we forget to take a moment for ourselves. Living in a city known for their beaches, I’m guilty of not taking advantage of that privilege. The beach is filled with simple benefits we overlook at times, so I’m taking the step towards seeking a change in my absence.

Benefit of the rays:

Upon arriving to the beach it’s almost impossible to deny the power the sun posses. As you lay under the rays perfectly bronzing, you’re also enriching your skin and body with a much needed vitamin, vitamin D! Vitamin D is known to improve brain function, specifically the cognitive brain function. This function in the brain helps you organize and retain brain memory. The sun is also proven to increase your mood, aka happy you! The sun increases serotonin in your body, which your maximizes your joyous emotions!

Benefits of the Sand:

Growing up, my mom would always exfoliate her skin with the ocean sand. As a kid, her actions confused me. Now, as a young adult, I realize this was amazing for you skin. Rubbing your skin with ocean sand gently exfoliates all the dead skin off your body and leaves you feeling baby smooth.

Benefits of the Water:

I specifically remember being on vacation in the Bahamas and cutting myself with a rock just before entering the water. I immediately turned away from the water and ran to my dad, who in turn picked me up and took me straight into the water. Initially, it really stung, but my dad explained to me how the water helps heal any wounds or skin lacerations. Additionally, the seawater also helps improve your immune system, your mood, circulation, body hydration and overall well being.

So grab a good book, good company and head to the beach to have a great time!
