FIU Students are Finalists in Red Bull Race

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FIU chapter.

Imagine traveling around Europe with only having cans of Red Bull as currency. Sounds impossible right? Well three of our own FIU students are going to on take that challenge in a race called “Red Bull Can You Make It?”

In this competition, teams from all over the world have seven days to get to Amsterdam without cash, cards or phones. First, teams are flown to a specific starting points in Europe, which include, Madrid, Budapest, Manchester, Stockholm and Rome. Once there, they have to give up their precious belongings and settle for 24 cans of Red Bull and one phone with unlimited data. The teams then leave from their starting points at the same time and the race to Amsterdam begins. It’s similar to the reality show, “The Amazing Race”, but a bit more challenging, since they can only rely on Red Bull cans to get around.

It’s also not just about the final destination and the price at the end, which they haven’t announced what it is yet. During their journey, they have to reach specific checkpoints in European cities, document their travels with videos and pictures and complete tasks a long the way. If they successfully complete the tasks, they get more cans to trade for food, housing and transportation.

Tico Ginart, Chris Bonilla and Chris Martin are finalists representing FIU in this spontaneous adventure. To audition, they had to make a creative video presenting their team and had to get a specific number of likes to make it to the next round.

The name of their team is called The Palm Tree and each of them has unique skills that will come in handy in this type of competition.

“ I’m always over-prepared, the visionary, have a huge network and have been to the most of the places we’re going,” said Ginart. “Bonilla is the hippy, always has good vibes and a very good communicator. Chris is the negotiator so he’s really good at working out deals.”

On March 6, they will find out if they are one of the teams chosen to compete in the race and take on an experience like never before.

“ We’re just three adventuress, crazy friends living our lives to the fullest and making the best of it,” said Ginart.
