Lush Haul: Deal with those Post-Deadline Break-outs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Falmouth chapter.

As the weight of impending deadlines and exams are lifted, we are often left with the struggle of transporting the ton of library books back to campus, crippling Dominoes debts and an overpowering urge to return to the safety of our duvet fort to catch up on binge-watching a Netflix series. But another struggle that a lot of us students are facing with is dealing with those post-deadline break outs.

After the January stress is relieved, it is about time we gave our skin some much needed TLC. So HC Falmouth are going to give you a hand in finding out which products on the high street which will get your skin back to that seaside glow we all know and love. Now, everyone’s skin is different. Treatments that work for some people will have no effect whatsoever on others. It’s important that you know your skin. Is it dry, sensitive, oily or combination skin?

There’s no instant fix. With an overwhelming amount of products out there that claim to address all these skin types, it can unfortunately take a while to find something that is effective. I often find a treatment that works for a while becomes inactive after prolonged use. So for me, changing my regime every so often seems to help. Even now, I’m still on the hunt for the perfect product.

So lately (due to an excess of university deadlines and various personal stresses) my skin has been a train-wreck. And worst of all, the stress that this induces lands us in vicious cycle where stressing over spots = more spots. So I went to Truro on a quest and found myself in Lush. If for some reason you haven’t been inside a Lush store before, I urge you to do so! They sell all sorts of hair products, bath bombs, cleansers, beard softeners…you name it.

Not only are the products brilliant quality, but the staff are some of the most welcoming and approachable people I have ever met. I had a consultation with a girl that worked there and sat me down and went through about six different products with me, all which target break-outs.

I came away that day with three products that I have been using ever since and slowly, my skin is on the mend.

These consultations allow you to see both the effect that these products can have on your skin and find out loads of information about skincare in general. As I mentioned before, everyone’s skin is different, so, if like me, you are suffering from post-deadline or stress induced break outs, I would definitely recommend approaching a member of staff and getting them to talk you through your options.

Here are some of the Lush products that I found effective on my skin:

(Note: Some treatments can be pricey but with Lush, I really believe you pay for what you get. Alternatively, you can ask for a small sample to try out and decide if the treatments going to work for you and is worth investing in.)

Mask of Magnaminty, (£5.75)

This face mask is designed to clear and calm troubled skin, perfect for breakouts. The most satisfying aspect of this product is how satisfying and stimulating it is to scrub into your skin, and with its peppermint scent, it’s a delight for the senses.

Grease Lightning, (£6.50)

This is the first skin treatment I bought from Lush and I am still singing its praises today! It’s designed to target spots before they erupt, nipping the problem in the bud. It contains tea tree, which is incredibly soothing and anti-inflammatory – perfect for reducing redness and sore areas. Personally, I found this treatment incredibly effective for my skin, which is prone to break-outs. The only problem is that I get through it way too fast!

Ultrabland, (£7.50)

This is a product with a stripping power that has never ceased to amaze me. Even after I used a make-up wipe, I found this cleanser picked up the hidden traces of dirt and make-up that can often be missed. It contains honey and is incredibly gentle, much kinder to the skin than some cleansers which can strip away necessary oils.

Enzymion, (£14.95)

And finally, my favourite product and inevitably the most expensive! This is a beautiful rose-petal scented moisturiser that aims to brighten tired skin. The thing I love about this product is that it helps to leave a matte finish, making it a good primer for foundation. When teamed with the Lush colour supplements, it provides a perfect base coat which looks incredibly natural. When wearing this combination, my housemates have commented on how much better my skin has been looking lately: more natural, clear and bright. Enzymion may strain on the purse strings but for me, its brilliant coverage makes it worth every penny.
