This week we got to know blonde bombshell and Falmouth enthusiast Eryn Murray!

What is your favourite memory so far?

I have so many, this is really difficult to narrow down! I’d probably say the one that sticks out the most is when I went travelling last summer. I went to Maya Bay (where The Beach is filmed), and we wanted to get there before the crowds so left before sunrise. Little did we know how choppy the sea would be on a little wooden Thai style boat! It’s safe to say we feared for our lives! However, when we got there it was so beautiful I may have cried… (just a little). I remember feeling so happy and grateful. Although I couldn’t find Leonardo DiCaprio!

Why did you choose Falmouth university?

Well I was so intent on having a year out before university because I wanted to be by the sea, and I’ve always been determined to do fashion or now as it turns out sportswear design. Two days before the applicant deadline, I discovered that Falmouth University existed and with a course that combined everything I want (Performance Sportswear Design), so I applied! Cornwall has always been a special place for me and holds so many happy family memories, it is such a blessing to be here.

Favourite food to eat or cook?

Ooh this is a tough one! I love making Thai green curry after learning how to cook it properly in Thailand and love making that for other people. But I think my favourite food to eat is Tapas, I love the idea of picking at smaller plates, and plus its super tasty!

Where is your favourite spot in Falmouth?

My favourite spot has to be along the walk from Gylly beach to Maenporth. Just after Swanpool, if you can climb through the trees a little and onto the rocks it brings you out to a point where it’s so peaceful and you get such an amazing panoramic view. It’s so nice to go for a little personal time!

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

I’d like to have my own Yoga and Surfwear brand somewhere in Australia or California! Or possibly even New York, it’s definitely one of my favourite places! I want to get a lot of experience working for fashion houses and sportswear brands and see how different companies work. Also I know for a fact my list of countries travelled will be increased.

What is your favourite book and film?

I was always a fan of Pride and Predjudice when I was younger, but I am currently reading My Life On The Road By Gloria Steinem and it’s amazing. She is such an inspirational and empowering woman! I definitely suggest this to anyone, especially if your wanting to be inspired. My favourite film has got to be Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

What is your favourite band and song at the moment?

Being from Manchester, I’m a big fan of different bands and I guess Indie music. I’ve always loved The Courteeners, Miles Kane and The Smiths. There is a cover of ‘Take Me Out’ by The Smiths which Liam Fray and Miles Kane did and I can’t stop listening to it, it’s incredible! Also I’d like to mention how excited I am about the Last Shadow Puppets coming back, can’t wait to see them in April!!

Best event in Falmouth?

When Ben Howard performed at the Princess Pavillions, that was incredible!

Favourite time of day?

I love the time you get to yourself in the morning, when the sun is beaming through the windows, it’s so quiet (other than the noise of my espresso machine bubbling away)! It’s a good time to create your aims for that day, and count your blessings.

When you aren’t doing work what are you doing?

I’m a yoga fanatic, so I enjoy doing that! But I love any kind of adventure, so if the weather is on my side I’ll go on a walk and see where my feet take me, and it’s a great way to clear your head too. In the summer I will most probably be found on the beach or in the sea!

Thank you Eryn for answering our questions, and we wish you all the luck in the future. Can’t wait to be wearing your designs in 10 years time!
