How to Reinvent the “Going Out” Look

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

There’s nothing better than spending your weekends dancing the night away at the townhouses or the beach. But for most of us, that means wearing the same old bodysuits and skirts every week and looking like every other collegiate on campus. Here are some of our favorite ways to stand out and improve your party looks!

1. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

Fashion is all about pushing the boundaries in what you wear, so why not rock something you’ve never tried before? Try a bold cheetah-print top, or maybe a pair of patterned boots that steal the show. Step outside of the box (as long as you’re comfortable!) and try something new! Check Pinterest or Instagram for some ~fashion inspo~.

2. Change Up Your Hair

Your hair is a huge part of your look, and I know I always end up straightening my hair every weekend. Changing up your hair can seriously change your look. Be bold and try a new color; there are plenty of hair dyes that wash out quickly so it’s not permanent. Or, stay simple and try a fun new hairstyle!

3. Play with Makeup

Your makeup is just as much a part of your “look” as your outfit. Try a new style of eyeliner, a bold lip color, or even a new eyeshadow color! Makeup is a great way to show off some creativity and flare in your look!

4. Make a Statement

What you wear says a lot, so say something that matters! Stand out at the party by wearing a cool new pattern, playing with textures, or rocking a bold color. Try wearing mesh or fishnets under jeans, or boots with stars all over them! Be bold and catch everyone’s eye at the townhouses.

5. Go Casual

It comes as no shock that most girls use the weekends to dress to the nines, but why not change the game? Reinvent the “going out” look by wearing your favorite ripped jeans and coolest sneakers. Not only will you still look great, but you’ll be way comfier than you would be in a skirt and heels!

6. Rock a Jacket

There’s nothing worse than making the trek all the way up to the townhouses in the freezing cold. Protect your body from the cold air by wearing a jacket! Rock a cool pattern, or even a cool texture, like fur! It can change the entire look, plus keep you warm! Make sure you don’t forget it if you take it off while dancing!

7. Fun pants

Skirts are so in right now: everyone’s wearing them! Switch things up by wearing pants up to the party! Rock a pair of flowy pants in a silk fabric, or even a cool patterned pair. Pants go great with a simple tank top or tube top to tuck into them.
