7 Hacks for When Your Stress Becomes Too Much

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

As every collegiette knows, being a college student and stressed out go hand-in-hand. Between schoolwork, extracurricular activities, part-time or full-time jobs and internships, it’s easy to see how stress is a normal part of our lives. With these seven quick tricks, you can try to reduce the stress in your life.

1. Yoga

Yoga is a great way to relax and unwind—all while getting your workout in for the day. The best part about yoga is that you don’t even need to leave your dorm room to get all the benefits.

2. Making Lists

With so much going on, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and unorganized. By making a list of things you have to do at the beginning of each week, or even each day, you’ll know exactly what you need to accomplish and won’t forget to do anything.

3. Dancing

Like yoga, dancing is great way to de-stress and stay in shape. Grab your best friends and a speaker for an impromptu dance party, and you’ll feel so much better after.

4. Budget Your Time

If you know you have three essays due and two tests next week, tonight probably isn’t the best night to binge-watch Netflix. Procrastination is no one’s friend in college so make sure you set apart time to get everything you need to do done and then take time to relax afterwards.

5. Music

If you feel yourself slipping away while you’re studying, take a five-minute break and listen to a song you know will pump you up. You’ll get to take a break from your work and you’ll come back more motivated.

6. Working Out

Exercise is a great way to stay focused and relaxed because it reduces some of the negative affects stress can have on your health. Head over to the Rec Plex for one hour each day to sweat away some of your stresses.

7. Take A Night Off

Set aside one night each week to hang out with your girlfriends and make it a stress-free zone. Whether you have a girl’s night out or a girl’s night in, you’ll have so much fun being with all your friends you won’t even remember what you have to be stressed about.
