10 Thoughts Everyone Has During Their First Spin Class

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Spin classes have become increasingly popular in recent years. With the rise of boutique riding studios such as SoulCycle, Fly Wheel and Joy Ride, spinning has gone from just a form of exercise to a hobby, and for some it’s a lifestyle. I stepped into my first SoulCycle class a mere three months ago. I was nervous, but I felt pretty confident. “I’m fit (sort of) I can definitely do this.” LOL at how naïve I was. Here are 10 thoughts everyone has during their first spin class.

1.“Ok so just remember 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions. Jeez everyone in here is so fit. Am I going to die?”

2. [Alright, stand up and move your feet]

“Oh, this isn’t so bad. Right. Left. Right. Left. I’m doing SUCH a great job.”

3.[Drop your elbows]

“Wait, what are we dropping? Dropping them to where? Wait, we have to drop them to the beat???”

4.[Faster! Turn up that resistance!]

“Nope. I’m actually going to die. I need an ambulance. Can someone call my mom?!”

5.[Tap it back!]

“What am I tapping back? How do I tap? How is it possible to have sweat in your eyeballs?”

6.[Alright, now pick up your weights!]

“Weights?! How long have I been in here? What year is it? My head is spinning. I probably smell so badly. I’m so sorry bike neighbor.”

7.[Here we go, pulse them up, up, up]

“Is it possible for your arms to falls off? Will mine be the first case in history? If they do, will they write a book about me? I better have muscles after this. I think I can feel them growing. How am I STILL sweating I’m just moving my arms!”

8.[You can take this song in the saddle if you need to. Just listen to the music]

“I will be taking this in the saddle, thank you very much.”

9.[One last turn on your resistance. We’re going home!]

“Alright, almost there. I can do this!”

10.[Great job, rock stars! Give yourselves a round of applause!]

“That’s right! I am a rock star! I don’t think I’ve ever been so sweaty in my life. I wonder when the next class is?”
