5 Lessons that The Fosters Have Taught Us

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at F and M chapter.

I am obsessed with almost every single TV series that Freeform has aired. There’s just something about some of the series that this station chose to air that combines deep emotion with intriguing plot lines. One of my favorite shows from Freeform (formerly called ABC Family) is The Fosters. If you have never heard of this show, it is about a pair of two mothers who adopted their foster children and was recently given a teenager named Callie to foster while they find a place for her to stay. This series tackles a lot of social issues that are relatable to problems that exist in our society. This show is definitely a must watch for everyone, for it teaches its viewers so many lessons and opens their eyes to various injustices that are present within our world today. Here are some of the lessons that are continously portrayed throughout the series:

1. Never be ashamed of being different and don’t ever hide who you are from anybody.

2. Don’t let labels define who you are.

3. Don’t be afraid to speak up. Your voice is important.

4. Family is the people who love you and makes you feel at home.

5. Anyone who is ashamed to be with you isn’t worth your time.

We love The Fosters because it tackles real issues that real people in today’s society face. Every episode leaves us with a message and forces us to reflect on who we want to be and how we can change the world. No matter what your story is or how different you are from this family, the Fosters is always family to us.
