Exeter catches its students out all over town after a night out with the Golden Horn perfectly situated right outside Mosaic, a van selling the best cheesy chips around right outside Arena, and how can you avoid the trap of getting a burger in Timepiece when it has its very own burger bar right inside the club.
If you have enough will power to stumble home without being tempted by Exeters’ food traps, then try these healthier options HCX has come up with at home:
Slice of grainy toast and scrambled egg
- When drinking alcohol we lose vital vitamins and minerals such as zinc and vitamin B which will make you feel lethargic and may even cause mouth ulcers – grainy toast is rich in vitamin B and egg is full of zinc.
- Toast will make you feel full and satisfied
- A cheap and easy snack

Crackers and cheese
- The cheese again provides valuable B vitamins and zinc
- Go for a low fat cheese to really cut down on the calories
Vegetable and fruit sticks with a yoghurt dip
- Try a low fat yogurt and experiment with different flavours – perhaps even pre-make your own dip!

Top Tips:
- Before you go out, set aside an area in your fridge with a selection of healthy foods so you can easily access them at the end of the night – you’ll be grateful to come home to some pre-made food and decide it’s much easier to eat than boiling up a pan of pasta!
- Don’t take enough money out for food – if you think you’re likely to stop off at one of Exeter’s infamous kebab shops, then don’t take enough money out with you to buy one!
- Drink plenty of water before bed and during the night to fill you up – sometimes when we think we’re hungry we are just dehydrated and craving water, especially after alcohol
