HCX Travel: The World’s Best Hotel Pools

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

It’s always nice to have some form of procrastination whilst working in the library which doesn’t involve mindlessly checking Facebook on your iPhone or computer every 15 minutes!

Flick through some of the world’s most weirdest, biggest and eye-catching swimming pools, and who knows, you might find it somewhat more fulfilling than seeing the same stories on your homepage for about the twentieth time this afternoon!

Find your dream destination here, in HCX’s roundup of some of the most amazing hotel pools around the world!

1. San Alfonso del Mar, Algarrobo, Chile

To start off with, let’s begin with the world’s largest swimming pool. Not only does it cover 19 acres of land, it holds 66million gallons of water. This private resort in Chile has set out to create ‘a sea beside the sea’, and at ground level, this pool stretches further than the eye can see.

2. Library Hotel, Koh Samui, Thailand

This boutique hotel on the island of Koh Samui in Thailand is not only famous for its beautiful sea views, but also its blood red coloured swimming pool, contrasting the crystal clear blue of the seawater directly in front. This is a modern take on a simplistically designed pool.

3. The Intercontinental, Hong Kong

Look closely and you will realise that this infinity pool is actually on the rooftop of a building, offering breathtaking views over Hong Kong.

4. The Blue Lagoon Geothermal Resort, Iceland

Although not strictly speaking a swimming pool, the Blue Lagoon in Iceland is definitely a ‘must see’ on your list of destinations. These naturally heated pools are the perfect place for relaxation in a beautiful setting.

5. Hotel Villa Honegg, Ennetbuergen, Switzerland

The outdoor swimming pool at this hotel is a spectacular one. It is constructed from stainless steel and is heated throughout the winter. This means that you can enjoy the beautiful views of the Lake of Lucern and the snowy mountains all from the comfort of a luxurious infinity pool.

6. The Golden Nugget Hotel, Las Vegas

The Golden Nugget in Las Vegas boasts its truly individual pool, known as ‘The Tank’ which surrounds an aquarium containing sharks and other varieties of fish. Not only this, but it boasts a water slide which actually goes through the middle of the shark tank, definitely not one for the faint hearted, but don’t worry it is extremely secure.

7. Holiday Inn, Shanghai

If you haven’t realised it yet, this is the view of a pool from below! This pool is suspended on the side of the Holiday Inn flagship hotel in Shanghai. It has a glass bottom and hangs over a 24 storey-high drop! The swimmer can see the people on the street below, giving them the sensation that they are swimming in the sky. You are therefore suspended in water with panoramic views of the Shanghai skyline. Breathtaking!

8. Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and Resort, Monaco

This swimming pool is a personal favourite. Located in the trendy principality of Monaco, the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel has a pool which has a sand bottom to create the sensation of being in the sea. The pool is extensive, connected together by small rivers and bridges. A paradise located in one of the most popular areas of the Southern coast of France/Italy.

9. Huvafen Fushi Hotel, Maldives

These infinity pools look over the ocean, and are installed with fibre optic lighting for a magical swimming experience. You can even wine and dine on small platforms in the swimming pool and be surrounded by water, twinkling lights and the ocean.

10. Marina Bay Sands Resort, Singapore

This hotel is 57 stories high, overlooking the Singapore skyline. It may be a small, narrow pool, but it is one of the highest and most luxurious pools you will find!

11. Hotel Hacienda Na Xamena, Spain

Our penultimate gem is the gorgeous Hotel Hacienda Na Xamena. This is a pure example of something which you do not have to travel half way across the world to tropical territories to experience. Located on the island of Ibiza, this beautiful hotel offers a stunning pool suspended 180 metres high at the top of a cliff. The hotel is located within a preserved natural park, meaning that the panoramic views are like no other.

12. Ubud Hanging Gardens, Bali

Set on top of a cliff, these swimming pools are surrounded by rainforest. Whilst enjoying a leisurely swim, guests have commented that more times than once they have been joined by a monkey or two, perching on the edge of the pool. Not only this, but each hotel room has its own personal infinity pool. I would strongly recommend giving this entire resort a Google, it is spectacular!

So there you have it, a small list of some of the most amazing swimming pools located around the world.

Connie is a BA Geography student in her third year at Exeter University, and is  also a deputy Travel Editor for Her Campus Exeter. Connie discovered her passion for travel when she was just 13 years old during a 4 month school exchange programme to Christchurch in New Zealand. Since then she has developed a love for discovering more of the world and on her gap year she was lucky to travel to both Africa and South-East Asia, and next on her ambitious list is to visit South America. She will hopefully be able to contribute well to the Her Campus Exeter Travel team! At university Connie enjoys spending quality time with her friends, and is a great fan of trying and testing different cuisines and restaurants, despite being a rather poor cook herself. She enjoys playing sport socially such as netball, tennis and hockey, but has never possessed the competitiveness and aggression needed to be a top player in either of these! Something she is keen to pursue however is learning to speak Spanish, which she is currently studying alongside her Geography degree at university.  After university Connie plans to work within the Marketing and PR sector, having always had an interest in working with large scale brands in both the beauty and travel sector.
