8 Songs You Need On Your Gym Playlist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

The New Year’s resolutions have been made to lose those extra few pounds we’ve all put on over Christmas, and those resolutions are, for most of us, probably not going too great. With all the leftover chocolate, and then starting back with early morning lectures, exercise probably isn’t something you’re feeling particularly motivated for right now.

But don’t lose hope just yet! Kick those New Year resolutions back in gear and get working out – whether it’s the gym, running, or maybe joining a class. And one way to get motivated? A killer workout playlist.

1. Eye of the Tiger – Survivor

Who doesn’t want this on their workout playlist? Listening to this song makes you feel like you can conquer the world, so it’s unquestionably one to start you off with!

2. The Phoenix – Fall Out Boy

Going along with the New Year resolution theme, a phoenix fits very well! The song’s got a fantastic tempo for running, or pushing you that bit further, and the thought of coming out of a workout, energised and feeling like a new you – being raised ‘like a phoenix’, as the song says, is motivation in itself.

3. Let’s Go – Calvin Harris ft. Ne-Yo

With a good track by Calvin Harris and some motivational lyrics courtesy of Ne-Yo, which of us wouldn’t feel like working out that much harder listening to this one?

4. Let The Groove In – Justin Timberlake

If Zumba with BodySoc, or an Aerobics class is more your thing, this is ideal to get you in the mood for going to a class! Not too fast, but upbeat enough that it makes you want to get up and move, this is another fab song to add to the list.

5. Pirates of the Caribbean Remix – DJ Tiësto

Some people love dance music for their workout, some people like songs that are more instrumental than with lyrics… and most of us are suckers for Pirates of the Caribbean! This remix of the main theme by DJ Tiësto is a must for your workout playlist, with an electronic dance twist on an epic tune.

6. Sweat – Snoop Dogg vs David Guetta

This one’s got a great beat to it to keep your pace up when you hit that mid-workout wall that makes you think, ‘that’s enough for today, right?’

7. Can’t Hold Us – Macklemore and Ryan Lewis ft. Ray Dalton

With a brilliant tune, this one is another of those that makes you feel empowered to do anything, even budge those last few stubborn pounds left over from Christmas. Definitely one to download for your playlist ASAP!

8. Misery Business – Paramore

I love this one at the end of a gym session, it’s great for making me push myself that bit further for the last couple of minutes, making me feel even better at the end of a workout knowing I’ve gone that extra mile.
