Your Guide to the New Cox Hall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

Maybe you’re newly experiencing the sophomore slump and can no longer find your pick-me-up Chick-fil-A waffle fries on campus; maybe you’re a freshman already tiring of the DUC and searching for the quickest way to blow your Dooley Dollars; or maybe you are overwhelmed with joy that the Cox salad bar has more options than ever and are curious about other new developments in Emory’s most delicious and phalicly named cafeteria. Yes, Emory has gotten it right in one social activism arena and removed a particular southern franchise from its grounds, in the process revamping many of the other food stations in Cox and even punching up the interior decor!

So what’s up with these new food renovations? Whether you’re fighting the freshman fifteen and being super health conscious, or need a little comfort food post Orgo exam, we’ve got some great suggestions for navigating the new and improved Cox Hall.

If you feel like being healthy…

The Vietnamese Pho is a unique dish that is a total hit.  The steaming hot vegetable broth filled with rice noodles will leave you completely satisfied without being overly full.  And the bonus is that you can get it with chicken, steak, or tofu.

The new and improved salad bar is a great option if you’re looking for a light meal on the go.  With almonds, cranberries, premade salads, grilled chicken, and even steak, the new salad bar has an abundance of protein options that will take your everyday salad to the next level.

If you want a delicious veggie filled salad without the effort of having to actually make your own, look know further than the Fajita Salad at Twisted Taco.  It has fresh sautéed peppers, black beans, and a chipotle vinaigrette that will give you your Mexican fix, without all the extra carbs.

If you are looking to stock up on some healthy snacks, the convenience store has plenty of picks.  You can get Greek yogurt, healthy choice soups, and pre-portioned Special K Pop Chips.

But if your feel like going all out …

The Mac and Cheese from D.B.A. Barbeque is something you’ll dream about for days.  It’s cheesy, creamy and so delicious.  One thing is for sure: you’ll never be able to look at the Easy Mac in your drawer the same way again.

The Big Jack Burrito from Twisted Taco will give your Chipotle burrito some serious competition. The giant soft tortilla overloaded with cheese, rice, beans, salsa, lettuce, and sour cream creates an incredible dish. You can indulge further by adding steak or chicken. Complete the meal with a side of chips and guacamole and you will definitely be ready for a siesta.

If you want something greasy, salty, and absolutely amazing, the sweet potato and regular French fries at Dooley’s Den are for you.  With the perfect amount of crunch, these French fries will leave you constantly wanting more. Dip them in some ketchup and you’ll be happy you let yourself indulge.

Looking for something to enjoy after a night out, a bad day, or really just any reason? The convenience store has got you covered.  Ben and Jerry’s is the way to go if you want something creamy and cold.  And with flavors like Phish Food and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough it’s very hard to resist.  Or if you are looking more for a cake filled with frosting, check out the massive amount of Hostess products in the back (yes, I mean Twinkies and Ding Dongs)!

***Insider’s tip: Be sure to go to Cox at an off-hour, or be prepared for lines, crowds, and overall madness!
