Travel Tips for a Cheaper Vacation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

It may be midterms season, but there’s a silver lining: spring break is right around the corner! For those of you who don’t know what to do on Spring Break, I have some hacks to give you the perfect vacation for a reasonable price. I’m an avid traveler, and one of my missions in life to visit as many countries as I can. However, being on a tight budget most of the time, I’ve come up with a list of hacks to make the most of your trip without breaking the bank.

Europe

Now is the perfect time to travel to Europe. With the euro so close the dollar, you can have an amazing experience for cheap. I recommend traveling from major airports (JFK, BOS, LAX, MIA), as tickets there are sometimes less than half the price than in other airports, such as ATL.

SE Asia

Southeast Asia has been known for its low prices. Nice hotels can range up to $30 dollars a night. Five-star hotels go for $100. I feel Southeast Asia would be worth your time. The most expensive thing you’ll do is get your plane tickets, but other than that, it’s smooth sailing. Honestly, I can’t name just one place you should visit in Southeast Asia, given that all of them are pretty reasonable. From personal experience, Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos are amongst the cheapest.

Caribbean

The Caribbean is a go-to destination for many couples and college students. I mean, what’s not to like? The beach? The parties? The atmosphere? The people? I recommend you visit Cuba, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, or basically any island in the Caribbean. If you do decide to visit one, I recommend you book your tickets from Miami; it tends to be cheaper than if you book them from other cities.

New Zealand

The most expensive thing about New Zealand is getting there. Otherwise, the country itself is relatively cheap. This is for the thrill seekers, the risk takers, the ones that look death in the eyes and say, “Not today,” so if you’re into skydiving, bungee jumping, rafting, etc., I recommend you go here. I recommend you get your tickets departing from JFK, MIA, or LAX.

I hope my little input helps you in the future!

P.S. Remember to erase your cookies before searching for flights; otherwise, they’ll try to give you expensive ones.
