Throwback Thursday to Hallowen

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

Throwback Thursday to Halloween.

Remember when Halloween was about watching Halloweentown marathons, decorating your house, and eating all of the candy you possibly could? Then we got to highschool and college and Halloween changed.

It became about parties and the “hottest” costumes, not trick-or-treating and movies.  No one says it better than Cady Heron: “Halloween is the one night a year girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it.”

Don’t get me wrong, Halloween is really fun in college too, just in a different way. But wouldn’t it be great to bring back the way we used to view Halloween? I’m talking about celebrating some of the best of back then right now–without having to deal with the braces that came along with it.

Here are some ways to celebrate Halloween, middle school style.

Get in the spirit of Halloween with ghost decore: Decorate your apartment with pumpkins and ghosts and all of the decorations you loved when you were younger.

Get scared: Pick some scary movies to watch. And if scary movies aren’t your thing, Halloween Town is always great.

Eat seasonal sweets: Make Halloween inspired treats!

Cupcakes: Make chocolate cupcakes, add orange food coloring to vanilla frosting, and top with Halloween sprinkles.

Popcorn: Pop a big bag of popcorn and put it in a bowl.  Add orange an black M&Ms, pretzels, and pumpkin shaped pretzels–they’re always in mini packs this season!

Cookies: Buy or make gingerbread cookies and decorate them like skeletons with white icing.

Milkshake: Combine pumpkin ice cream, graham crackers, milk, chocolate syrup, and chocolate chips. Top off with some candy corn. Yum!

Trick-or-treat without the work: Have all of your friends buy their favorite Halloween candies.  You guys can then get together and all trade, so you’re left with a delicious mix.

Get pumped for pumpkins: Carve some pumpkins with cool designs and put them around your dorm or apartment.  You can roast the seeds you take out in the oven for a delicious snack.

Jam out: Listem to some classic Halloween music (Monster Mash anyone?) while doing your homework/ any of the activities above.
