The LOVE’s Story

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

We all have either heard of or know of the Cartier Love. A delicate, gold (also comes in rose-gold and platinum) bracelet that’s on the arm of practically every star you know. The bracelet itself was created by Aldo Cipullo, who designed for Cartier in 1969 after he was inspired by the idea of chastity belts. He wanted to create a bracelet that you had to unscrew and take off that would speak of intimacy and commitment.

The bracelet is held by two screws on each side and is secured to the wrist with its own screwdriver. Celebrities have a notorious past with the Love. In 1972, Liz Taylor wore her Love from Richard Barton to the Proust Ball in Paris. Designer Phillip Lim bought his first when he was only 16 and had been saving up for weekend jobs to purchase his bling. Although a serious splurge, the Love is a timeless classic and is a great way to show how much you do love someone (it’s ok if that someone is yourself!)
