How to Plan Your Parents Weekend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

Parent’s Weekend is coming up, and it’s time to start planning!  It is the perfect opportunity to check out places in Atlanta that you’ve never been and experience some cool places with your parents.  If your parents can’t make it down, grab your friends and make this weekend one to remember! From brunches to day trips to sushi, here are some suggestions on places to go and things to eat!

1. Things To Do

If you are looking for places to go during the day with your parents there are plenty of touristy, sightseeing things to do! If you want to do something Emory related, take a walk through Lullwater Park! Fall at Emory is so beautiful, especially in Lullwater. Stroll by the President’s house, the pond, and cross the suspension bridge!  Your parents will love it!

If you’re willing to trek a little farther to downtown, check out the World of Coca-Cola or the Georgia Aquarium.  These are two of Atlanta’s main attractions, and you have to go if you haven’t been! They may be extremely touristy, but they are two things you have to eventually check off of your Atlanta bucket list.  Parent’s Weekend is the perfect time to play tourist!

2. Places To Eat

We all love Rise ‘n Dine, but Parent’s Weekend is the perfect opportunity to try a new brunch place! Try Buttermilk Kitchen or Folk Art if you are looking to change it up! These are two of my favorite brunch spots in Atlanta. Both are very popular, so be prepared to wait a little.  With both located 15-30 minutes from campus, you’ll be so happy to have your parents’ rental car.  Buttermilk Kitchen serves the perfect southern breakfast that the whole family will enjoy.  The atmosphere at Folk Art is awesome and makes for a fun dining experience, plus the food is amazing!

When it comes time to pick a place for dinner, you really can’t go wrong! There are so many great places to try, and it really just depends on what you are in the mood for.

If you’re thinking sushi, try Umi in Buckhead or Miso Izakaya. You may have wanted to try these with friends, but they were a little out of your price range. Parent’s Weekend is definitely the best time to go. At these sushi spots, the ingredients are fresh and the rolls are creative! Order a variety of rolls to taste and try!

If you’re in the mood for tapas, try Barcelona Wine Bar or Salt Yard.  With small portions to share, tapas are great for family dinners. Call ahead to make a reservation, as these places can get very busy on weekends. If you’re headed to Salt Yard, you must order the salmon tacos and tuna bruschetta. Trust me: you won’t be disappointed!

Finally, who doesn’t love pizza?!  If you’re in the mood for something simple yet delicious, try Antico, a part of Little Italia Atlanta. You’ve probably seen a million Instagrams from this place, and I can confirm it tastes as good as it looks.  You can’t order by slice so make sure you come hungry and ready to eat! Try their Margarita Pizza or create your own – you can’t go wrong!
