Fall Away from Summer Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

As you probably know, it is already technically fall. I say ‘technically’ because here in the ATL it doesn’t exactly feel like it. The trees are still green, the weather is still warm, and pool parties are still happening. Enjoy the last few weeks of this summer feeling because pretty soon fall will come in full force. Leaves will change, shorts and tank tops will no longer be viable wardrobe options, and that early morning walk to class will get so much colder. Transitioning to fall can be pretty tough. There are just way too many fun things that come along with summer, and we have been lucky enough to live with them since, like, April.

Fortunately, I have some ways for you to effortlessly transition from summer to fall without missing out on all of the things you love about summer. Here are some of the best summer-to-fall trades this seasonal change provides…Emory style.

Yogli Mogli –> A Starbucks Skinny Cinnamon Dolce Soy Latte

As great as frozen yogurt tastes on a hot day, it just looses a lot of appeal in the fall. I mean, why would I want something that will only make me colder? Instead, warm up with a Skinny Cinnamon Dolce Soy Latte from Starbucks. The cinnamon offers a nice fall flavor, while the skinny keeps it low cal. And the soy–well, that’s up to you, but soymilk and coffee go great together and if you haven’t tried it, you should!

Saturday Pool Parties –> Weekend Sports Bars

College and Pro Football are both in the fall, so you’ll find sports bars packed with fans on Saturdays and Sundays. Whether you like football or not, sports bars can be a great place to meet people and continue to party on the weekend when it’s no longer bathing suit weather. Check out Tin Lizzy’s for a close option or Taco Mac for something a little outside the Emory Bubble.

The Gym –> Lullwater

When it’s boiling hot and disgustingly humid, going outside, nonetheless working out outside, sounds absolutely terrible. I definitely get sweaty and tired enough without the added elements. However, the fall is the perfect time to move your workout routine outdoors. Its not too cold yet, and there is usually a light breeze that helps push you through to the end.

Barbeques –> Wine and Cheese Nights

Barbeques are a summer staple. The warm evenings create the perfect atmosphere for hanging out with friends and eating good food. Get the same effect when the nights start to get cold with an indoor (aka heated) wine and cheese night. Invite your friends over for a sophisticated (or not so sophisticated) night of food, friends, and laughter. Whether this means gold fish and cheap champagne or Brie cheese, grapes, and expensive wine, the night is sure to be a success.

Not Taking Vitamins –> Loading up on Vitamin C

Unfortunately, fall can also be called cold and flu season, and you will get hit hard if you don’t prepare yourself. Between late nights, unhealthy eating, and constantly being surrounded by people, college kids are very likely to get sick this time of year. So head to CVS and grab all of the vitamins and Zicam you can find, because we all know trying to study for midterms while sick, or having to miss that party because of a bad cold, really sucks.

Berries and Watermelon –> Apples, Oranges, and Pears

Summer is known for its amazing fruit, and it is really disappointing when all of your favorites are suddenly less available. Especially if your only source is the DUC–they practically stop having them all together. Instead, look forward to really delicious apples, pears, and oranges that come with colder weather. The farmers market has just started offering really fresh fall produce, so make sure to stock up on Tuesdays. This way, you won’t have to go into complete fruit withdrawal.

Tanning Lotion –> Moisturizer

The cold air, heated rooms and wind that accompany fall can create rough, dry skin. Combat the irritation by regularly using a moisturizer on your hands and body. This way, you can stop your hands from cracking and skin from drying before this uncomfortable but practically inevitable situation starts. Even better, you can use a bronzing lotion so your summer glow lasts all year long.

So don’t fret that summer is over–>look what you have to get excited about!
