For those students lacking cars, i.e. lacking pretty much the only way to get off campus without having to chase down a shuttle, Emory can undoubtedly begin to feel like a slightly restrictive bubble after a while. Sure, Emory Village serves as somewhat of an escape, but unless you’re really hungry and in the mood for a quick and easy meal, it really doesn’t have that much to offer, plus it tends to get repetitive. Lucky for all Emory students, both car-owners and the car-less alike, a new retail-and-living development off of Clifton Road has recently opened up its shop doors: welcome to Emory Point, a refuge of sorts within walking distance of main campus that offers everything from a wide range of restaurants and shops to a CVS and a spa.
Some of you have probably already ventured up to Emory Point by now. But if you haven’t, or if you still haven’t explored the Point to its fullest, here are some of the places you absolutely must hit before heading back down to campus.
- The General Muir. This NYC-inspired, deli-and-restaurant combination has it all: a lively yet intimate atmosphere, authentic design, delicious food and reasonable prices. It is great for just about any meal, especially brunch, although it is often crowded (even during the weekdays) and only increasing in popularity. Be warned: you may have to wait in line, but the end result is definitely worth your time.
- American Threads. My friends call this clothing store a cross between Urban Outfitters and Free People, minus the hefty price tag. They carry a variety of different brands interspersed with some vintage pieces, plus an impressive jewelry collection. They also offer occasional discount on top of their already reasonable prices, plus a 10% student discount with your Emory Card (!!!). Definitely make this store one of your first stops!
- Fresh to Order. True to its name, this restaurant serves as a quick, yet fresh, dining option. It’s healthy, gourmet style food at a great price. From a wide variety of soups and salads, to creative paninis, to more filling entrees, this is an appetizing spot that wont empty your wallet. It even comes complete with a full bar and fun atmosphere. If you’re in a rush, don’t worry: you can take your meal to go, and the service is always quick!
Although these three spots are definitely my favorites so far, Emory Point doesn’t stop there. There is plenty more to explore, and many new places opening soon (including a cafe with both froyo AND cupcakes!). Enjoy!Â
