Emory Ladies Dress For Success!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

As collegiate women we are at this incredible transitioning point in our lives between college life and the adult world. With the adult world comes a whole consortment of new things; however, the one I am here to discuss is the wardrobe change. Between formal interviews, meet and greet lunches, or simply dressing to impress we need to know our way around the closet to ensure we look our best!

All the studying, networking and preparing we do here at Emory will only get us so far. The next step has to be taken. The impession we make has to last! Here are a few tips on how to dress to make the right impression and to put your best foot forward.

When you are interviewing, study up on the environment of the company. You want to show your interviewer that you understand and respect their office culture. That being said, you should never wear your casual clothes to an interview. Even if the enviroment is a casual one, you will send the wrong message of disrespect towards the people taking time to meet and talk with you.

For a more casual interview you could pair a pencil skirt with a blouse. Pick fun colors that define you and show off your style!!

You could also put skinny or straight leg dress pants with a conservative peplum and dress it up with chunky jewelry. Remember to keep it classy and don’t over-do it!

Remember to consider the season, and dress appropriately for the weather. A conservative, fitted dress in a statement color speaks volumes. But makes sure it’s saying the right things!

Lastly, some interviews require business attire. With this there isn’t much room for variability. You should don a suit, either with pants or pencil skirt (of the appropriate length), and a blazer. A nice blouse, heels and simple jewelry finish this outfit. When in doubt I usually stick to my pearls.

Below, Sarah demonstrates the perfect fitting pencil skirt and blouse for an interview. I found her just after the career fair rocking this business attire like a pro. She looks put together and stylish.
