5 Basic Shirts You Can’t Live Without

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

Alarm. Snooze. Alarm. Wake up. Bathroom. Closet. Jeans. Favorite shirt… wait you wore that yesterday. Ever had one of these mornings?

Before resorting to a groutfit, check your closet to see if you have any of these staple shirts. You know, the ones that pair with practically anything, whether it’s a pair of leggings or a high-waisted skirt? Chances are you already own something similar to each, but next time you’re having one of those mornings, keep these basic shirts in mind.

1. The striped one – FRAME Le Boyfriend Tee in Navy Stripe

Stripes are classic. This FRAME linen-jersey tee isn’t only super cute, but also loose and flowy. If putting on anything form fitting is simply out of the question, this one is definitely for you and won’t make you look like you’re wearing a trash bag.

2. The one you can sweat in – lululemon If You’re Lucky Short Sleeve Tee in Naval Blue

Why waste a perfectly good outfit if you know you’re just going to have to change to go workout later? It’s always good to have an option that’s cute in and out of the gym, especially when it’ll hide your post-workout sweat.

3. The super soft one – KAIN Label Pocket Tee in White

A favorite brand of Victoria Beckham, Sienna Miller, and Audrina Patridge, tees from this California-based company are sure to please. This modal silk garment may just be the softest thing you’ve ever touched and comes in a range of colors.

4. The one that can be dressed up – Clu Too Ruffled Short Sleeve Top in Heather Grey/White

Lunch date? Meeting someone for the first time? The ruffle detail on this shirt makes it a great option to be paired with jeans and heels for a more polished look, but still works well with your favorite denim cutoffs and Supergas.

5. The personalized one – Maison Labiche Custom Tee

This Parisian based company hand embroiders anything you could possibly want written onto your shirt, whether it’s your name, a simple saying, or a title you’d like to give yourself (for any GOT fans out there, Daenerys included). It’s all custom from the style of shirt to the color of the thread. If it’s cold out and a sweatshirt is more your style, don’t worry, they have those too.
