Internship Reflection: Immigration Attorney Giselle M. Rodriguez

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emmanuel chapter.

For my spring semester, I made the choice to apply for a marketing internship position for Law Offices of Immigration Attorney Giselle M. Rodriguez, PLLC located in Boston and ended up choosing to work here. It was the best decision, and I would do it all over again if I had the chance to! My time here will be coming to an end soon as I am graduating in a couple weeks and will eventually work a full time position. It is exciting to be starting a new chapter and life soon, but I will always cherish the time that I have had here.

As mentioned, working for Giselle was my first choice. I had a few other options I was considering looking into, but this position and office stood out to me. It was so exciting when I got offered the position as well! I remember that day so well; I was on the phone with Giselle going over the positing and she was just so amazing to talk to. Giselle was so welcoming and just as passionate when talking about the job. It was so genuine and warm; after talking for just a few minutes I knew I wanted to be here because there was no one better. Giselle’s compelling story about her family and how she came here is inspirational, which greatly intrigued me into working here with her.

When it comes to careers, I have always been passionate about taking part in a job that makes me happy and ones that create positive impacts on people’s lives. I knew that working in immigration would be the answer to that. It has been inspiring knowing that what I do here in marketing not only helps Giselle, but the people who are looking for her services and being able to bridge that connection. I have loved hearing some of the stories as well through my job and know that I have an impact in helping those people who come here.

When starting this position, there was so much that I came to learn along the way about what makes marketing efficient. I have gained a better understanding of knowing the audiences who engage with content, what people are interested in, and how to grab their attention. Graphics and quality are very important as well. Going into immigration law, I never realized how lengthy certain processes can be depending on the case or how frequently laws change which further impact cases. Some of them can go on for a couple of months, a year, or even more at times; this is definitely a part of the job that I never thought of. Even with marketing, it is interesting how to track the analytics and create unique ways to market. It could be an idea or change that is so simple, but could make the biggest differences in leads.

Looking back at my time here, my favorite part has honestly just been spending time with everyone in the office and being able to get to know Giselle. It has been an amazing environment working here and everyone is greatly appreciated for what they do. I feel like I am making a difference and that my work has been recognized which has been the best feeling. Giselle is someone who I now consider a mentor and a friend; she is so supportive and passionate about our success. She focuses on giving us work that is engaging and fueling us towards our career goals; I think it is hard to find places that do this and Giselle could not do it any better. What I love most about my experience working here is that it does not even feel like work. That is what I would say is the best feeling you can find when being at a job. I just love what I do and who I do it with, Giselle is honestly one of the best bosses I have ever had. I could go on and on about how awesome Giselle is, she truly is an inspiration with how hard she works, her passion, and her own personal story of what brought her to where she is today. Whether someone is looking for a job, attorney, mentor or even a friend in immigration law or anything else, I will always recommend Giselle!

For my next move after interning here, I am planning on working in marketing, advertising or sales. I am not sure yet where I am exactly going, but I am in the process of finding my next place. I know that wherever I go, my goal is to be happy and enjoy whatever it is that I am doing. My plan is to definitely stay in Boston for work and live in the city. I would like to be here for a little bit and maybe travel or live somewhere else at some point to further my growth. I am grateful for my time here with Giselle and cannot wait to grow even more wherever life takes me!
