The JYC Gym was filled with energetic students this past Friday, October 23, as we welcomed back the wild night known as EC Madness. Sponsored by EC Super Fans, this event was hosted to celebrate all of Emmanuel’s athletic teams and give them a chance to get the recognition they deserve.
Various competitive events got fans and athletes off their feet to cheer and compete in classic games. Starting with musical chairs, the teams were able to get into the spirit of the night as they danced and shouted, encouraging their teammates to win. Hosts of the event got flustered when team members and fans started surrounding the chairs and yelling intensely – but why would anyone expect anything less than maximum enthusiasm from such competitive EC athletes?
The atmosphere was contagious and even non-athletes seemed to love watching everyone compete. There was a wheelbarrow race, 3-legged race, and of course a tug-of-war to finish the night off. Athletes ran around the gym choosing fans to participate alongside them. Different colors, such as red or blue, were assigned to each team. The teams then sat in different sections of the gym based on their color. Fans were given colorful leis to show their support for their team of choice.
Numerous raffles kept people engaged in between competitions, and you could always find groups of friends dancing in the stands, entertaining themselves. A memorable performance by the dance team left the whole gym in awe, especially this year’s freshmen, who had not yet been blessed with their amazing moves.
Dancing seemed to carry the energy throughout the whole event, which lasted until 10pm. The stands were left almost empty when all the athletes excitedly ran onto the court for a surprise flash-mob. The teams had been practicing for a week beforehand. It was great to see all the teams one last time as they laughed and danced together.
I think it’s safe to say EC Madness made an official comeback, with the Blue Team earning the title as reigning champions of the night. There were many laughs, clumsy falls, and original dance moves that left people saying they couldn’t wait to go back next year!
