Are you vegan? Do you miss the sweet taste of ice cream sundaes? Or are you just trying to cut down on your unhealthy intake of ice cream? Well, look no further than this ice cream alternative. Completely dairy free, healthy, customizable, and not to mention completely delicious. Definitely worth a spoonful or more of your time.

Somehow bananas yield the ability to recreate that smooth, creamy texture of the beloved dessert ice cream. All it takes are a few easy steps and a freezer to store.

Ingredients:

-Peeled, frozen bananas (2-4 per serving)

-Any other food add-ons (see bottom of article for ideas)

Equipment:

-Blender

-Freezer

-Freezable Storage Container

The first step has to be done in advance. You should chop up a few peeled bananas into small bite size pieces, and store in a bag in the freezer. They should remain in the freezer for a few hours, until they are completely solid. I usually leave mine in the freezer for about an hour and a half to two hours. The next step it to take them out (after the few hours), and try to break the banana pieces apart. Most likely, the bananas froze all together, so my recommendation is to hit the bag, gently, against a counter.

Then after this, the banana chunks should be slowly added into a blender or food processor, with the setting on high. Unless your blender is very strong, I would not add all the pieces at the same time. You should blend the banana chunks for a few minutes, until they create a thick, creamy texture. If you want it even more creamy, I recommend adding coconut milk.

Once this is complete, you scoop it out, (or eat it out) of the blender, and put it in a freezable container. You can eat it as soft serve right away, or freeze it and scoop out later. Make sure to freeze what you don’t eat, don’t put it in the fridge.

If just plain banana ice cream sounds a little boring to you, there are many options to customize this dessert. My personal favorite is adding fruits like strawberries, or a mix of berries in my ice cream. All you need to do is freeze the fruits in advance, and then add them into the blender along with the banana. Some people enjoy adding foods like peanut butter, cocoa powder, and even different types of nut butter. These other options only have a one step process of adding them right into the blender, no freezing needed.

Banana ice cream is never boring, and always delicious. Not to mention, it might actually cost you less than your average price of ice cream. Welcome to the world of happy, healthy eating, where ice cream can be eaten anytime of day!
