Usually around the age of 11 years old, girls start going through puberty , and start to develop an important part of the female body: breasts. To help support the breast, doctors recommend for girls to wear this clothing called a bra. The first modern bra, or the corselet gorge, was created in 1889 by a woman named Herminie Cadolle of France replacing corsets and chemises. The sole purpose of the bra was mainly to enhance cleavage to make women more desirable. Over time, bras have progressed to protecting breast tissue and keeping the breasts supported. Some girls may also like that bras  make them feel more comfortable in their own body. Additionally, the weight of the breast is redistributed and boosted up by the bra helping with posture and back pain. However, the notion of the bra has changed throughout the years.

Nowadays, even though there is no scientific evidence, more and more girls are refusing to wear a bra. Personally, I transitioned from bras to camisoles, that act just the same, because I found bras very uncomfortable. Contrary to what your mom or doctors say, not wearing a bra doesn’t cause your breasts to sag! In fact, it has been proven that bras most likely have the opposite effect, causing breasts to lose their shape over time. The “support” of bras weakens the muscles in the chest, making the breasts droop. And girls, come on, bras are hella expensive. Switching out of bras can save loads of money, especially for college students. Furthermore, when wearing a bra, the tightness of the straps can cut off blood circulation to your head causing headaches and discomfort.

If you want to wear something instead of a bra and how to get away without wearing a bra, here is what to do:

1.Camisoles

This is just as comfortable as a shirt, but you’re wearing a shirt under a shirt, thereby keeping your breasts supported and cradled in a comfortable, stretchy, wire-free material.

2. Nipple covers

Nipple coverts can keep your nipples from showing through form-fitted or transparent clothing. It’s a way to go braless without being completely exposed. They don’t provide any support or lifting, but they will offer a layer in between your skin and your clothing to prevent chafing and make it less obvious that you aren’t wearing a bra.

3.Big sweaters

Cozy, warm, and big! The weight and the look of a big sweater will cuddle you up without drawing any attention to how your breasts look. It is supposed to be comfy.

4.Bralettes

A bralette feels more like a training bra than a sports bra, to be quite honest. They are wireless, loose, and extremely comfortable

5. Free the boobie

Girls, My advice to you let your boobies be free. Don’t let society’s norms control you.

Our breasts are a big part of us, treat them right.

Just a girl waiting to be in Boston!!
