Pinterest-Inspired Valentine’s Day Recipes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

Valentine’s Day is almost here, and if you and your significant other don’t have reservations at a restaurant by now, chances are slim for getting your name on a list! Sometimes a romantic meal at home can be a sweeter gesture than a meal that costs over $50 at a fancy restaurant with an overpriced Valentine’s Day menu. Check out these super easy breakfast, lunch, and dinner recipes you can make with your valentine!

Breakfast

Heart-Shaped Egg Sandwich

The Stir

                                                                                                                                  Photo via dailyfeedus.com

Ingredients:

2 Eggs

4 Slices of bread

4 Pieces of Bacon

½ Teaspoon of salt

½ Teaspoon of pepper

2 Tablespoons of butter

Cooking spray

Directions:

1. First, make your eggs. To do so, start by preheating your oven to 320 degrees. Spray a medium sized non-stick pan with a thin layer of cooking spray. Crack both of your eggs in the pan. Turn the stove to a low-heat setting and cook the eggs until the bottom of the eggs becomes white. To fully cook your eggs, put the pan in the oven for 3-4 minutes. Take out the eggs from the oven and place the pan over the stove on medium-heat for a few seconds to loosen up the eggs and remove them from the pan. Add salt and pepper to taste.

2. Next, put the raw bacon in a pan on medium high heat. You can add a small amount of cooking spray to the pan but the fat from the bacon will most likely end up in the pan anyway. Turn the bacon often and cook bacon through until desired crispiness. Set bacon on a separate plate.

3. Either put the four slices of bread in a toaster, or quickly toast the bread on your pan. Cut a heart shape out of 2 of the 4 slices of bread using a knife.

4. Assemble the sandwich. Put down the whole slice of toasted bread, add 2 strips of bacon, one over easy egg, and the heart-shaped cutout slice of bread on top.

Dinner:

Wine-Balsamic Glazed Steak

Better Homes and Gardens

Ingredients

2 Teaspoons cooking oil

1 Pound boneless beef top loin or top sirloin steak, cut 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick

3 Cloves garlic, minced

1/8 Teaspoon crushed red pepper

3/4 Cup dry red wine

2 Cups sliced fresh mushrooms

3 Tablespoons balsamic vinegar

2 Tablespoons soy sauce

4 Teaspoons honey

2 Tablespoons butter

Directions:

1. Heat oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet. Add steaks to the pan without adding liquid or covering pan. Reduce heat to medium and cook steaks for 10-13 minutes or until desired tenderness. Once done, remove from pan and set on plate.

2. Add garlic and red pepper to the skillet and cook for 10 seconds. Remove skillet from heat and add wine. Return wine heat and boil it uncovered for about 5 minutes or until most of the liquid has evaporated. Add mushrooms, vinegar, soy sauce, honey and simmer for 4 minutes or until mushrooms are tender. Stir in butter and add steak.

3. Serve with mash potatoes, your favorite vegetable or salad!
