Don’t let the winter blues get you in a funk! Whether you’re in a committed relationship, or just getting to know someone new, winter is the perfect season to spice up your dating life. Here are some exciting seasonal date ideas to try this winter.
1. Holiday Baking
Find recipes online and buy the ingredients, then head over to Colonial for an afternoon of holiday baking. Another option is to make gingerbread houses, which don’t require an oven. You can just use graham crackers, frosting, and candy, or purchase a kit at Trader Joe’s.
2. Ice skating on The Boston Common Frog Pond
Adult admission is $5, but on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., college students pay just $2! The Frog Pond Café is also open Tuesday through Sunday until 9 p.m. They have hot cocoa, Belgian waffles, and more delicious treats. Bring a date and your college ID for a night of winter fun.
3. Movie Marathon
Pick out your favorite holiday movies, pop some popcorn or make hot chocolate, and get cozy on the couch. Need ideas? Try watching Elf, Love Actually, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, A Christmas Story, or Gremlins.
4. Window Shopping
Newbury Street is one of the best places in Boston to window shop. If you’re not in the mood for the stress of holiday gift shopping, you can wander down Newbury and simply look around. There are plenty of fun shops, including Newbury Comics, Urban Outfitters, and Trident Booksellers & Cafe.
5. Coffee Date
This is the perfect idea for a casual first date. Whether you prefer Starbucks or Thinking Cup, a coffee date is an opportunity to get out of the cold and into a cozy coffee shop, sip holiday drinks, and get to know one another.
6. Photo Shoot
If you and your significant other have been dating for a while, this is a fun way to celebrate the season. Ask a friend to photograph you outside in the snow, in front of a christmas tree, or wrapped up in lights. You can even use props such as santa hats and mistletoe.
7. Snowy Walk
The lights are up in the Boston Common. When it’s snowing, go for a late afternoon stroll through the Common and look at the lights on the trees. Take a moment to appreciate the beauty of our city, and don’t be afraid to stop for a kiss (or two!)
8. Snow Day
Take a break from classes and homework for a snow day! After a heavy snowfall, put on your warmest clothes and go outside. Possible activities include sledding, building snowmen, and having a snowball fight.
