DIY Honey Avocado Face Mask

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

It’s not a New England winter without the classic spring blizzard. Despite how pretty it is to curl up on a snow day and watch the weather, it is safe to assume your skin isn’t a fan of the harsh winter days that just won’t let up. But don’t worry (or spend your entire spring break fund on ineffective moisturizers), there is an all natural, DIY face mask that will do just what you need.

For this super easy and even more effective face mask, you will need only three ingredients: honey, an avocado, and coconut oil.

First step: Grab a bowl and pour in about 1 teaspoon of the honey.

Next, add roughly ¼ of the avocado (you can use the rest for guac and snack while your face mask does its magic).

Then, add in 1 teaspoon of the coconut oil.

Finally, stir and mash all the ingredients together until it is a smooth, easily spreadable consistency.

Take your face mask and gently massage it onto your face, avoiding the area near your eyes. The mask works best if your avocado was refrigerated, the cold working to firm your skin as well as moisturize it. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes and remove with a warm washcloth.

Voila! You now have perfectly restored, baby soft skin and you are ready to take on the rest of this everlasting winter.

P.S. Here is a bonus guacamole recipe to make while you’re waiting for your mask to be done. It goes great with chips and the latest episode of Scandal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Avocado

  • ¼ of a tomato

  • ¼ clove of garlic

  • Pinch of salt

  • Sprinkle of lime juice

Directions:

  • Scrape out the rest of the avocado into a bowl.

  • Add the lime juice and mash the avocado to the consistency you want.

  • Cut the tomatoes, garlic, and salt, then mix.

  • Enjoy!
