Emerson has always been a chapter that liked to take risks, so emailing the chapter network to spotlight different Her Campus chapters at other schools was no different. One of the schools that we have decided we wanted to introduce to you is the chapter at the University of South Florida (USF). First launched  in 2010, the USF chapter is located in sunny city of Tampa, Florida. The chapter has about fifty members spread across writing, content, social media, and PR/events teams. No matter what team you’re part of, you can always be sure that HC USF will welcome you into their community, which strives to empower passionate, supportive women.

Every strong chapter needs strong leadership, and USF relies on a dedicated executive board. Leticia Ribeiro Perez is the Campus Correspondent that runs the chapter, and she is an Integrated Advertising and PR major graduating this spring. Molly Urnek, a Journalism major with a focus in magazine writing, serves as the Editor-in-Chief, and also graduates in the spring of 2020. The Secretary is Mia Borja, a Communications and Pre-Med major (double threat!) who graduates in 2021. Michala Jackson is the Social Media Director, an Integrated Advertising and PR major graduating in 2021. Another Integrated Advertising and PR major is Michaela Hedderman, the PR/events director who is class of 2020. Last but not least, Vianka Garcia is the chapter content strategist, also a class of 2020 Integrated Advertising and PR major!

It’s always fun to see what other chapters are writing about, so of course we had to ask what USF’s favorite articles have been. Five Black Women Who Made Strides in The Beauty Community by Sarah Casciano was one of the features the chapter highlighted, and for good reason. It’s definitely important to learn about the women of color changing the industry. Also, be sure to check out Seriously, Wear SPF this Summer by Michala! SPF is so important to wear daily, and I know I definitely needed this article to remind me.

HC USF does more than just publish fun articles like these. I’m so jealous of the yoga classes they’ve held as a chapter. Besides helping you work on your well-being, HC USF also wants to set you up for some girl boss success. Their meetings have featured cool guest speakers, and they’ve done career-building workshops to help foster success in their members. Stay tuned for more events throughout this semester, like a resume and cover letter workshop (which we all need in our lives, honestly), a panel on post-grad life, and of course, more yoga (because who wouldn’t want that?). But don’t worry, HC USF knows how to have fun, too. They want to get to know their members better, so they’re working on fun social events for the semester!

Looking back, HC USF has made so many great memories as a chapter. Some of their favorites include their executive board photoshoot from last year’s Fall Festival, their yoga class, and their adventure in thrifting. Nothing brings a group together like thrift shopping, am I right? But of course, we also wanted to look into the future, too. HC USF is a gold level chapter, which is an awesome achievement in itself, but they hope to move up to diamond this year.

All the way up in Boston, we didn’t have much experience with USF, so we wanted to learn more about the school. USF has over 50,000 students representing over 145 countries, which is a crazy thought for us at a college with only a few thousand undergraduates. Still, you won’t feel overwhelmed by HC USF: members loves building friendships with each other, and the chapter prides itself on the bonds that HC creates. After all, one of the words the chapter would use to describe themselves with is “supportive,” because members are always encouraging each other to achieve their goals and follow their dreams. HC USF would also say they are “diverse” (there’s so many students at USF, and HC USF says they “bring such unique perspective to everything we do”) and “fun” (with all these unique people, of course the chapter would be a good time!)

If you want to be part of this awesome chapter, you can find them online on Bulls Sync, or in person at Bulls Market. Stay up-to-date with all their articles on the Her Campus USF page, and be sure to follow the chapter’s Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest!
