Gratitude From An Undergrad: Reasons To Be A Thankful College Student This Thanksgiving

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

It’s that time of year when I’m beginning to realize how much of the semester has gone by and how little is left. I’m a little joyful, a little sad and a whole lot of stressed. My professors have decided to cram in last minute group projects and quizzes, my room is a disaster zone and I’m keeping myself up late at night with anxiety over my looming class registration date. The little bright light at the end of the tunnel that’s getting me through is Thanksgiving Break. Lucky for us Elon students, this means a lengthy ten-day-long break filled with food, friends and family. As we study through the remaining days until break, here’s a little list of college-style gratitude to keep in mind.

  1. In a few days, you’ll be asleep in your own bed. And hopefully, you’ll be able to sleep in, too. There’s no better way to celebrate a post-turkey dinner coma than in the comfort of your own bed.

  2. You can do laundry for free! Or your mom can do your laundry for free. But if you really want to show your mama some thanks, do your own laundry. At least it’s free! (That last part was for you, Mom ;)  )

  3. FREE TIME! As a prime example of the over-involved Elon student, free time is my little slice of heaven. Make plans with your friends from home, catch up with your ‘rents and sibs, get one of those adult coloring books…whatever does it for ya. If you’re anything like my family, we’ll be decorating for Christmas and watching cheesy Hallmark movies all week.

  4. CATCH UP TIME! As a college student, most of my free time turns into a scheduled plan on how to catch up on the 27 things I should have completed two weeks ago. It’s the perfect time to touch up your resume, apply for some internships, and tweak your infamous four-year-plan.

  5. Family Time <3 This is definitely the most important one of all. I don’t care how much you enjoy your freedom and love your school, I know you miss your mommy and daddy. We all do. Get in some extra one-on-one time, as many leftovers as you can stomach, and lots of hugs to get you by until Christmas Break.

Happy Thanksgiving, Elon. Stay grateful.
