This week I decided to interview some of the Her Campus girls and my friends about what music means to them. Here’s what they had to say:
“Personally, I associate music with memories. Different songs remind me of different holidays, different people, happy times, sad times etc. I think music is so powerful in that way, listening to one song can make you feel a certain way so strongly and I love that” – Jess
“Music to me is about making life that bit more cheerful, particularly when I’m walking around on my way to lectures or studying in the library to some calming tunes. And of course, it’s great for going out in the evenings. Music creates a distinct atmosphere in all situations of life and we’d all be lost without it” – Charlie
“Music for me is a great way of creating a lively mood and atmosphere. It’s always empowering and uplifting, never failing to give me a boost. I also love the way it brings like-minded people together at festivals and club nights – really easy and fun way to get to know people” – Lily
“So there’s a song by an artist called ‘Badly Drawn Boy’ on the soundtrack for the film ‘About a Boy’. He’s pretty much a one hit wonder but the song’s called ‘You Were Right’ and there’s line that goes ‘songs are never quite the answer, just the soundtrack to a life’ – that basically summarises what music means to me. Whether it’s getting your Beyonce strut on on the Klute dancefloor, or crying over a bottle of wine with Whitney’s ‘I Will Always Love You’ on repeat, you’re always going to look back on life and remember the song that made you feel that way…”- Sarah
