Tips on Procrastination via Online Shopping

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Duke chapter.

Counterintuitively, it always seems like my online shopping increases as my stress increases; I trick myself to believe that looking for a new dress to wear over the summer is as productive as getting a head start on an upcoming essay. I might not be doing schoolwork, but hey… at least I’m being productive! While I usually don’t end up buying anything, looking at the trends and new products is always fun. Here are five unique online stores to distract you this finals season:

1. Boutique 1861

via: Boutique 1861

This Canadian vintage-inspired store sells beautiful clothing, inspired by the 1920’s to the 2000’s.  While the site’s dresses, tops, and skirts are show-stoppers, the Boutique also offers a variety of accessories and a cute lingerie line. New items are added daily, so the cute outfits (and procrastination) never end.

2. Dog Dog

Full of quirky items from hologram skirts to egg-shaped purses, Dog Dog is a Chinese store that ships for free worldwide. It has an adorable selection of sweaters, and a funny assortment of socks (think avocados and penguins).

3. Sourpuss

A refined Hot Topic, Sourpuss caters to people who “have interests in old school punk rock, tattooed pinups, vintage and kitschy oddities, kustom kulture, classic monsters and more.” With crazy prints in cute cuts, the options can easily spice up a wardrobe.

4. Saved by the Dress

This Miami-based store sells a variety of cute clothing, shoes and accessories, with new items posted daily. With lots of floral patterns and pastel colors, the site is a good option for new spring and summer outfits.

5. Print All Over Me

via: Linked by Air

A unique shopping experience, Print All Over Me (PAOM) provides custom made clothing created by designers across the world (and you!). Every three months, the site releases a group of clothing silhouettes¾ from backpacks to sundresses¾ on which you can upload your own design. You can also purchase designs by others who have uploaded onto the website, to add a unique piece to your wardrobe.

I am a senior at Duke University, majoring in art history and minoring in political science and psychology. Outside of class, I love traveling, watching films and writing. I'm excited to be Duke's campus correspondent this upcoming school year!
