6 Products that Healed my Dry Winter Acne-Prone Skin

Every winter my skin is put through the wringer. A couple of years ago I was placed on Accutane for two years, a very powerful medication for hormonal acne. While it did heal my acne, my skin suffered the consequences. Excema would break out between my knees and elbows. I would wake up and my face would feel dry and cracked. Something needed to change. Winter can be a cold and dry season for your skin without a little help. Start with these skin care products to begin the process of rejuvenation.

 

1. Rose Water Face Toner Mist

This is one product I swear by. Not only do I feel refreshed after using it but it really helps my skin to stay moisturized while not breaking out. On a totally unrelated note, it also helps with a smoother make-up application because it keeps your skin wet. It’s pretty much a win-win. Sometimes I’ll even keep it in my school bag in case I want a little skin-refresher, clearly, I’m kind of obsessed. Apply 1-3 times a day as needed but especially in the morning before you put anything else on.

 

 

2. Vitamin C Serum

This serum has been a game-changer. It’s what took my skin from feeling just ok to feeling great. Sort of like drinking a big glass of orange juice on a winter morning this serum is like food for your skin. There are a lot of different options to choose from but being the broke-college girl I am, I picked out a few cheaper options on Amazon. Apply once in the morning after toning mist.

 

 

3. Moisturizer w/SPF

This one is really important. Obviously, you will need to apply actual moisturizer lotion in the winter but make sure that it also comes with a healthy dose of SPF. The winter sunshine can be harsh on your skin even if it doesn’t feel like it. It’s important to apply SPF to your face every day. There is one product I swear by that you can get at any drugstore or Amazon: Aveeno ultra-calming daily moisturizer with SPF 15. Thank me later. Apply once in the morning after vitamin C serum has been applied.

 

 

4. Spotstick

Just because your skin is dry, doesn’t mean it won’t break out. I know this from experience. This is why it’s important to find a spot stick that works to heal those little red bumps that occasionally appear on your skin. It’s called a spot stick for a reason. It dries out the exact area you apply it to so use wisely! The spot stick I’ve linked above works like magic. Apply in the evening in the second step to your nighttime skincare routine the first being a cleanser of your choice.

 

 

5. Calming Serum

To continue your nighttime routine apply a serum with blue tansy oil to both renew your skin for the next day and fight off any acne. Blue tansy is the key ingredient. Because this is an oil-based serum, it’s the only thing I put on my face after the spot stick. Unless you’re on Accutane make sure the product does not contain coconut oil. Apply before bed and after the spot stick.

 

6. Dry Eye Relief Drops

So, this product is not really a skin product but it does wonders for making me feel more awake in the morning. My eyes get dry both in the winter and the fall which can actually impact my vision during the day (that’s how dry they get). It’s pretty much like lube for your eyes. That sounds so wrong but I promise you it will feel right when you try it.
