Junior Melody Lewis, from Baltimore, Maryland, is currently a student at Delaware State University and is one of the reasons why females are simply amazing. Majoring in Early Childhood Education, Melody plans to teach grades Pre-K through 1st grade with the hopes of getting her Master’s Degree in the same field. After graduating, Melody would like to open her own teaching center for children.
Growing up, Melody always had a way with children. She always wanted to care for her younger siblings and two nieces. It was no surprise that she wanted a career involving children. Even in high school, Melody always managed to find her way to her school’s daycare lab, a child center that both students and staff could use during the school day. Being on the Dean’s List since she began attending DSU has also inspired Melody to follow her dreams even further.
“Children have always seemed to gravitate towards me and I never knew why, but I do love being around children. So I thought, why not make a career out of doing something I love?” explained Melody.
Even though working with children can be a challenge, it’s a challenge that she’s preparing herself for. By working with the children at the DSU preschool, she’s able to get a hands-on experience with the little ones.
“I just want to give children an environment where they can grow their knowledge and grow socially,” says Melody.
After she completes her undergraduate career, she plans to move to Texas where she can begin to teach and make plans to open her center. From the girls of Her Campus, YOU GO GIRL!!!
