Nostalgic for Mom’s Cooking

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

Every year, as the weather gets colder, my mom brings out my favorite warm, delicious and simple recipes. She starts with an idea and then works her magic while claiming she is ‘doctoring’ it up. Unfortunately, being in college means I don’t get my mom’s famous meals until I go home. So, as I get my coat out and strap on my boots, I will be dreaming of these mouthwatering beauties.

Chicken noodle soup is one that can cook all day in the crock pot and make the whole house smell SO good!

Ham and bean soup is so simple, but with a dollop of sour cream and some shredded cheese on top, I could eat it every day.

Spaghetti and ground beef is a recipe passed down from my grandmother, very simple yet it always tastes better at home.

Garlic toast! This may be the one thing I miss the most, I could eat about four slices of this heavenly creation.

Crescent dogs always pair well with some of my favorite steamed vegetables. These babies are like giant pigs in a blanket…with cheese!

I grew up in Columbus, Ohio and have been doing dance, gymnastics, and cheerleading for as long as I can remember. I have been a lifeguard for six years. I am a member of the Alpha chapter of Alpha Chi Omega here at DePauw. I have cheered on the tigers for football and basketball seasons for the last three years. I am a Biology major and my dream job is to become a pediatric nurse. I will be going to nursing school after I graduate from DePauw.
