How to Eat Healthy on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

It can be so hard starting a healthier diet if you don’t have someone to help you, but never fear, Her Campus DePauw is here! First, you can’t look at eating healthier as a diet; just look at it as making a couple small changes to how you eat currently. The following is a helpful guide to some snacks and simple smoothies so you can adopt a healthier lifestyle. It can be hard to make these changes at first, but with some self-control and determination, you can change the way you eat.

An important thing to remember is that protein is so important. Many of the things listed in this guide have some element of protein. It helps maintain, build and repair your cells and supports your immune system. It also helps build muscle. Additionally, the cost of these healthier foods can be overwhelming but this guide is specifically targeted toward healthy foods that are at a low cost. This guide is completely at your disposal!

Apples and peanut butter are a great snack if you are trying to eat healthier. The peanut butter provides the protein and if you are looking for healthy alternative to protein, try buying some natural peanut butter.

You can never go wrong with a good ol’ fashioned protein shake! I swear by this brand. It tastes great and is really simple to make.

There are some very simple and delicious smoothies that you can try at home!

Kale, Pineapple, Yogurt

Blueberries, Almond Butter and Almond Milk

There are also simple snack bars that you can grab on the go when you are in a rush.

Luna bars are fantastic snacks to eat. They have a lot of protein and they taste great.

Kind bars are also great options. They have lots of nuts to provide protein but, be careful, they tend to have a lot of sugar so don’t eat them all the time.
