I bet you are sitting in your home or wherever you are quarantined just bored out of your mind right now. Trust me, I feel that too and so do many other people trapped in self-isolation with their families. Anxiety and negative thoughts seem to come in waves during this pandemic that’s so uncertain. Every time my phone lights up with a news notification and every time I scroll on social media, it reminds me of this seemingly unrealistic reality we are living in.

Instead of losing my mind for the next month I have decided to look for a possible reason why the universe has decided that NOW is the time for a pandemic. I don’t know about others, but I’ve concluded that it was time for me to focus on myself more. With a mandatory lockdown in Ohio I guess it’s time to quarantine and chill!

Family for many may be a source of comfort, and for others a source of stress. For me my family has been a mixture of both. I dreaded the thought of being away from my friends and college for five months, but maintaining that negative mindset while home will restrict me from getting anything out of my time here. In order to have the most fulfilling time back at home during this anxiety inducing time I have created certain things to help me. I recommend many of these activities to enjoy your quarantine and time back home to the best of your ability!

Cooking: For my time back at home I have learned that cooking is one of the only things that ties my family together. Learning new skills and recipes has been so fun for me, and has given me more motivation to get creative with the foods I make!

Arts: When life changing events occur, such as the pandemic, feelings are at an all time high making a perfect environment for writing and being creative! Before bed I will take the time to write in a journal for any thoughts I have, or if I’m feeling extra creative I will attempt to write a poem. Other crafts or arts include making friendship bracelets, painting, and even coloring.

Physical Activity: I know this topic can sound like a “hell no” from the start but hear me out! Being stuck in the house for an extended period of time can magically motivate some to do things they never used to do! On those few days when it’s not raining, and possibly sunny in Ohio, I will make time in my day to simply walk around my neighborhood. Pop on those headphones and drown the world out with some fresh air. Yoga is also something that has helped me physically and mentally during this time. Search a yoga video for beginners on youtube, set the mood in your room and enjoy! You don’t have to be a whole body builder to get some exercise in! The little things matter too.

Stay safe and healthy! Wash your hands, social distance, and follow my few recommendations on how to quarantine and chill!
