World’s First University for Adult Influencers

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DCU chapter.

“There’s very little institutional knowledge in sex work, because of the stigma and the harassment and the decentralised nature of the community”

It’s no surprise to hear that OnlyFans and similar platforms are growing bigger by the day, with more and more influencers using this as a platform to build their very own business. However, not everyone has the knowledge and experience to grow and maintain a business.

Centro University, the world’s first adult influencer university, launched on September 30th. The free, online course teaches adult influencers how to build their fanbase and promote their social media accounts.

On their Instagram account, the university said: “The 100% free course was developed by sex workers for sex workers. I couldn’t be happier that there is finally this amazing resource for influencers to grow their online adult business!”

The university is in partnership with FanCentro, a subscription-based online platform that was created in 2017 to help adult film performers and others sell access to their private social media accounts.

On the Centro University website, they describe themselves as a “comprehensive educational system that will show you exactly how to successfully build a career as an influencer with FanCentro.”

The instructors from Centro will teach you how to expand your reach, find new traffic, and maximise your earnings and profit potential. Some of the classes include:

Crafting an influencer persona

This class helps you find and develop your online persona and build your own brand. It covers what content you can create and how to navigate conversations around the work you choose.

Monetizing your fanbase with amazing features

In this class, students learn how to make the most out of their content and about important money-making tools. “Discover all the secret tips, tricks, and strategies the biggest and most successful influencers are using to earn big on FanCentro.”

Promoting and marketing in private social media

This details business marketing strategies, to help students learn the best ways to market their private social media business. This class also lets students know where they can turn to for help and support when needed.

Speaking with Paper Mag FanCentro Vice President of Marketing, Kat Revenga, said: “The more financial independence you have, the more control you have over what work you do or don’t do.”

“There’s very little institutional knowledge in sex work, because of the stigma and the harassment and the decentralised nature of the community,” she said, “if Centro U can become a home for education and a community from which to organise, hopefully, we can be a tool for sex workers.”

The idea for Centro U has been in the works for two years. Revenga explained that a vast number of sex workers came to FanCentro soon after the pandemic hit which, “made us feel a sense of urgency and responsibility for making this educational program a reality,” as many people turn to sex work to make their livings.

Revenga wants this educational platform to make people aware that this is a platform and there are skills you require in order to be successful. She believes there is very little knowledge being shared about sex work and said that “Centro U was set up to help experienced influencers teach those who were struggling.”
