Some Of The Best Self-Care Books

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DCU chapter.

Self-care is the practice of actively trying to improve your well-being and happiness. It could entail something different to you than it does to me. Some love to put on a facemask, take a bath, and de-stress as they put their problems on hold, some like to get active and creative to take their mind off of their troubles, and some like to try tackle the very issues and projects they have to complete.

Even though we all interpret self-care differently, it’s a very necessary and vital element of our lives, particularly during times of stress. If you find yourself in need of some stress relief, self-love, and motivation then you’ve come to the right place. These 5 books and journals will definitely set you on the right path.

Good Vibes, Good Life: How Self-Love Is the Key To Unlocking Your Greatness by Vex King

This one is my personal favourite. It’s so empowering, yet so simple to read and understand. The book is effortless to follow which allows for the message to sink in and give a greater impact. Vex shares his personal stories, teaches gratitude, acceptance, and positivity in the most beneficial way. This book will teach you that your possibilities are limitless.

Take a Moment: Activities to Refocus, Re-centre and Relax Wherever You Are in partnership with Mind and Michael O’Mara

This book takes an active approach in helping you manage stress and discover simple everyday things you could do to care for yourself. With some physical exercises such as stretching routines, and ‘body scans’ to more creative exercises like doodling and journaling, this book is perfect for anybody on the go who is looking for a simple, practical and accessible guide to self-care.

The Insecure Girl’s Handbook by Olivia Purvis

This book demonstrates that although there may be some insecurity in us all, it doesn’t take away from our power, our impact, and our effect on others. Olivia effortlessly writes about accepting this insecurity, coping mechanisms, and some brilliant insights in this guide to empowering ourselves and making a change. It’s your girl best friend in book form!

Kindfulness: How To Be Kinder To Yourself And Find True Happiness by Caroline Millington

This book merges two of the most important aspects of self-care: mindfulness and kindness. Caroline shows the true meaning of kindfulness by demonstrating how to put yourself as your number one priority, how to deal with life changes, and how to finally shake off those negative feelings that hold you back. Body positivity. Social media. Friendships. It’s all in there, and it is definitely a staple to read as a pick-me-up.

My Wellbeing Journal by Paperchase

This teeny-tiny book is perfect for anybody who wants to start journaling, who is struggling to process thoughts and feelings, or who feels they need some extra TLC. This journal encourages you to write down any difficulties and stresses and then nudges you in the right direction to overcome any issues. It’s a cute little diary to carry around wherever you go to keep on top of your wellbeing.

Happy reading, and don’t forget to take care of yourself!
