It’s getting to that time of year when you decide whether you’re going to spend Halloween eating snacks and watching movies or you’re going to grab your partner in crime and get creative when it comes to costumes. Here are some pop culture and movie inspired costumes that are super cute for couples but will also keep you warm, because come on, it’s October.

Beetlejuice and Lydia

Beetlejuice is the 1988 cult classic starring Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder. Nearly everything Winona Ryder is in is a cult classic. You’ll either love or hate the storyline of the movie but when it comes to costumes and visuals Beetlejuice is a winner. As Beetlejuice is so well known, it’s pretty easy to find his signature striped suit reasonably priced either online or in your nearest costume shop. As for punk cool kid Lydia, you just need to wear black with layers, lots of layers.

Beetlejuice is also really on trend as Beetlejuice the Musical is still relatively new to Broadway, but its soundtrack and new edge on the costuming is inventive, effective and luckily for us – doable at home. Think Wednesday Addams but no white collar or pigtails and maybe a touch of leather. That’s Lydia good to go.

Woody and Little Bo Peep

Staying with the movie theme, Toy Story 4 came out this summer and it brought an old time couple back together. Instead of basing your couples costume on the iconic duo of Woody and Buzz why not try Little Bo Peep’s new makeover? Bo’s new look consists of a powder blue jumpsuit and she’s fashioned her old skirt into a cape.

The film also develops her character into a ninja warrior of the playground, so she’s also an empowering character to dress up as and not just a pretty doll. But her costume is still feminine and fun. Not to forget Woody’s costume is very easy to put together at home with an old yellow shirt and blue jeans. The couples costuming of childhood dreams.

Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable

Kim Possible & Ron Stoppable are a super cute couples costume idea that is also really easy to put together. Although Kim Possible first aired in 2002, her wardrobe is pretty current in this year’s fashion lines. Cargo pants, combat boots and a black turtleneck? Sorted. As easy as is to get Kim’s costume, it’s just as easy to find Ron’s – because they wear the same thing. Need I remind you it is October and it is cold, not to sound like your mother, but at least this couples costume will keep you covered if you’re not into super short Little Red Riding skirts.

Max and Eleven

Now for the girls. Stranger Things’ Max and Eleven made waves this summer with the release of season three and their adorable friendship that oozed girl power. When they’re not fighting the Mind Flayer, they’re dorking out at the Starcourt Mall eating ice cream or flipping through magazines. Their style is colourful, bright and made for being active. Shorts, t-shirts, scrunchies, flower print shirts and white canvas shoes make the Max/Eleven aesthetic. Let’s not forget skateboards, sunglasses and ice cream would make some great props.

Lizzie McGuire and Miranda

Lastly, we have the original ‘bitmoji’ queen Lizzie McGuire. With the news that Hilary Duff will be reprising her role as Lizzie McGuire soon makes besties Miranda and Lizzie a great couples costume idea. Pull out your 00s accessories and platform flip flops for this costume and your halfway there. Lizzie’s hairstyles were the 00s equivalent of ‘Euphoria’s makeup design. The more expressive with your butterfly clips the better.
