Bella Hadid’s penchant for vintage fashion is certainly no secret. The model has long been hailed as the queen of Y2K style, leading the way for a 90s and 2000s revival. Whether she’s strutting the streets of New York or posing for the perfect Instagram, the supermodel has certified the retro aesthetic as cool once again.

The spring summer 2022 collections saw brands like Missoni and MSGM revive low slung denim. As usual, Bella Hadid was ahead of the trend, having rocked this early 00s look for years. Last summer, the model was spotted showcasing her tanned and toned midriff in a pair of low waisted hip hugging jeans and a tight crop top. The model perfectly executed the boyfriend chic aesthetic by adding a baseball cap and trainers to the look. Hadid is no stranger to contrasting traditionally feminine pieces with more masculine trends. In October 2020, the it girl was snapped wearing a hot-pink Ralph Lauren sweater paired with classic 1990s Dr Martens. With Bella Hadid celebrating this 90s grunge staple it wasn’t long until celebrities and influencers like Olivia Rodrigo and Addison Rae were seen stomping the streets in a pair of Dr Martens. However combat boots are not the models only throwback accessory. With brands such as Prada, Chanel and Louis Vuitton, Bella Hadid’s vintage bag collection is to die for. One of Hadid’s most iconic bags has to be her Dior Saddle, designed by John Galliano at the beginning of the millennium.

While Bella Hadid is definitely leading the way in effortless 2000s style, her underrated love for the 1970s warrants closer examination. The 25 year old was recently photographed wearing bright blue flared jeans with a black slouchy knit by Raf Simons. Flared trousers have become a must have for the model who was previously spotted in a denim pair from Ukrainian designer Masha Popova. At a time where micro skirts are emerging and showing skin is ‘in’, Bella Hadid is writing her own rules daring to wear a vintage floral midi skirt. In September, Bella took to the streets of Manhattan in a patchwork denim midi skirt reminiscent of 1970s styles with a hint of a 00s vibe. Bella has mastered the art of combining the 70s with her iconic Y2K style. Often spotted wearing brown leather jackets, the model channels ‘That 70s Show’ style with a touch of 1990s Jennifer Aniston.

Bella Hadid’s influence on the fashion industry is undeniable. While the early 2000s have become synonymous with her persona, her ability to rock 70s staples cannot be denied. As she puts her own stamp on runway trends she is not afraid to step outside of her comfort zone, a lesson we should all learn.
