A Perfect Lunch at Luna’s Living Kitchen

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Davidson chapter.

This past week, a friend and I decided to throw caution to the wind and ignore our upcoming midterms to enjoy a lunch in Charlotte together before we went our separate ways for spring break. Our eatery of choice? Luna’s Living Kitchen.

Luna’s Living Kitchen is an all raw, vegan restaurant that focuses on making not just great-tasting plant-based food but great-tasting food in general. The place is decorated with bright colors, plants, and dark wood, so you immediately feel healthier just for being there. As soon as we walked through the doors, we couldn’t stop saying things such as “this is the best thing we’ve ever done for ourselves” and “go us!” Yes, we were so proud of ourselves just for going to a restaurant. That’s just how happy this place makes you (or how should we think of ourselves – you decide.)

At this point, I should mention that neither my friend nor I are vegans, yet that didn’t stop us from loving every minute of this meal.

The menu is incredibly varied for not using any animal products, which includes no meat, dairy, honey, or eggs. They also don’t cook their food, because this keeps more nutrients in. The menu offers lots of appetizers, entree salads and sandwiches, and drinks. My friend ordered a burrito, and I ordered pad thai – both of which not things you would expect to be made vegan or served raw. But they were delicious. My pad thai was made of carrot and zucchini noodles, and the sauce was herby, peanut buttery, spicy, and all around more flavorful than most cooked, non-vegan dishes I’ve had.

For dessert, we split a salted caramel brownie and a berry cheesecake. Yes, they made a brownie without cooking it and they made a cheesecake without cheese. Don’t ask me how, but the cheesecake was moist and tangy and the brownie was rich and fudgy. I could have eaten at least 5 more helpings of each. Luckily, this stuff is healthy. (Right?!)

We left feeling healthier, fuller, and considerably less stressed than when we had arrived, despite having three midterms the next day. All in all, Luna’s Living Kitchen is a great place to have a perfectly healthy, fresh meal that tastes delicious and makes you feel super on-trend.
