How to Finish off the Semester Strong

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CU Boulder chapter.

It is that time of year, ladies, time to grind. With only one month left in the year, we need to pull our weight and finish off strong. However, that is hard when we can think of the endless summer days that lie ahead of us. No need to fear, as that is what I’m here for.

Make to-do lists.

Lists help people stay focused and motivated. I suggest starting with one list, things you must accomplish before the school year is over. For example, papers and projects that need to be finished or things that need to be stored over the summer. Anything that you need to accomplish before going home (or staying) should be put on that list. Then, I would list things that you must achieve daily, like working out or going to a meeting. But, the best part about these lists is that when you complete a task, you can cross them off your list, and it feels AMAZING!

Do not wait to do everything until the last minute.

I am the queen of this one. I used to LOVE to procrastinate and leave all of my work until the day before it is due but, not anymore. Between finals and everything else going on, save yourself now and just do a little bit every day. After a few days, it will become a routine and not as painful as you would think. You can even limit yourself to one to two hours after classes or in between them. That way, you won’t have to write two papers and read an entire novel in one night, because trust me, that is not fun.

Make sure to leave time for your friends.

Whether you are staying or going home, some of your friends will be doing the opposite. Therefore, you’re not going to see them for almost four months. That is a long time, and frankly, my college friends are some of the most incredible, most interesting people I have ever met. I’m going to miss them. Be sure to schedule some time to hang out with them. Do something fun, something special for your last hurrah. Book a big dinner, or go to Denver with your squad. Make sure to leave time for that because the end of the year can sneak up on you.

Enjoy what time you have left.

With all this stress going on for finishing up school work, it is sometimes hard to enjoy the moment. With all the homework, meetings, due dates, and packing up, it can be hard just to stop and enjoy the scenery once in a while. We live in such a beautiful place with lots of interesting people that it is hard just to sit back and have a good time with what is left. So, remember to make the best of everything and not stress, because time is too precious.
