Life’s too short to mope around on V-Day,  here’s how to embrace your singleness!

Valentine’s Day is the one day a year that I, like many single women around the world, dread. But why does it have to be a sorrowful day? I’m tired of shedding tears and pondering why I haven’t been chosen as someone’s partner. So, this year, as a nineteen-year-old girl, here’s what I’m doing to embrace my singleness on Valentine’s Day.

Galentine’s Day!

I’ll be hitting the town with my gal pals, cherishing the little moments with them as we laugh over good drinks and funny memories. Dressing up and putting on some cute makeup can boost your confidence, regardless of whether you have a Valentine or not. You feel ready to take on the day, and what better way to spend it than with your besties? My favorite spot is Lucille’s Creole Cafe on 14th Street for a great place to grab some Galentine’s Day brunch and snap some cute pics while you’re at it!

Remind yourself that you are loved, and there is nothing wrong with being single!

More often than not, we are our own worst critics and emotions like these can intensify on a day filled with happy couples and budding romance. But it’s essential to remember that love comes in all forms, and self-love is just as vital as romantic love. Embrace this time being single because it’s the perfect opportunity to fall in love with yourself and grow as an individual.

Self-care

Whether it’s a fun face mask, some Trader Joe’s dumplings, or rewatching your favorite rom-com for the 100th time, take some time for yourself! Do something that makes you feel good. A nice relaxing bath with a fun bath bomb or maybe a scenic hike could be just what you need. Keeping yourself occupied is key, and more importantly, treating yourself! You deserve it. I’ll be watching a new Netflix series called “One Day” that everyone is raving about on TikTok and using my favorite under-eye patches by Topical!

Write a love letter

Expressing your feelings in words can be transformative for many and you can get creative with your letters by adding glitter, stickers, and even some fun buttons you might have lying around your house. They can be to yourself, loved ones, or even to past lovers if you’re feeling spicy. This is the time to reflect, focus on gratitude, and appreciate the love and support you have!

Try something new

Explore a new hobby you’ve been wanting to try, whether it’s a fun recipe, crocheting, painting by numbers, or whatever piques your interest! Seize the day and try things you wouldn’t normally go after. I’ll be trying out a new recipe I found on Pinterest for heart-shaped strawberry cream puffs and plan on attending some yoga classes that CU offers at the REC center.

We are all loved and though it might seem like the world is ending, remember it’s just a little holiday. So instead of longing for something that will inevitably come, take a stand and celebrate yourself! Self-love and female friendships are the most beautiful things I have come across in my life. Why not incorporate them into your day? So eat your chocolate girl! And remember, you are deserving of love just as much as everyone else.
